To throw a spanner in the works of all these theories, Grey Lagoons was one of the 5 songs written and recorded in demo form in June 1971 (see the chronology on this site) The song was called Grey Lagoons then.

Ho John
for me that doesn't necessarily throw a spanner into this excellently esoteric theorising works.
fact: BF did call GL TBMPt2 at some stage. Also, it does follow TBM on FYP.
Given the very strong midnight blue shade of the Bogus Man, and its lyric of menace, it remains intriguing why GL should have any link.
OK, here goes, here's my theory this afternoon:
The Bogus Man is chasing. "He'll get to you". So, he catches his prey at the end of Part One. Then he makes his pitch (The Bogus Man Part Two): Blue sunsets and grey lagoons Silver starfish with honeymoons All these and more to choose If you
Satin teardrops on velvet lights Morning sickness on Friday nights Heaven knows what others I might bring To you
Broken partings making strange goodbyes Hopeless cases with fake alibis Even hoping we'll be there to share With you

Did BF call Grey Lagoons The Bogus Man part 2 ?????
A lot of early bootlegs got the song titles wrong as often it wasn't fans who recorded or pressed the music and they guessed the titles. I have seen The Bogus Man called 'Lots Of Fun' on bootlegs.

Whispering Bob Harris, from The Old Grey Whistle Test, introduced it as The Bogus Man Part 2 on some BBC session in 1972..So I assume he must have been given the song list by The Great Man. Unless he made it up himself! In which case,we should all bow down to Bob Harris ! It wasn't actually released until 1973 so I would imagine that it was probably just a working title at that stage and never made it on to the first Roxy Music album. Although Bryan mentions Grey Lagoons so many times in the song, that a natural title would have been ...err....Grey Lagoons ! On the same subject, wasn't While My Heart is Still Beating originally called Epiphany ?
