It has always been assumed that Casanova was re-worked for the Let's Stick Together album but if you look close at the sleeve it says the album was recorded between 73-76 so it may be just possible that Country Life has a Roxy-fied version of BF's Casanova.

Interesting thought - BF records his lounge version of Casanova first and then Roxy do their own version knocking the solo version out of the park - a possibility but I am not convinced

Question - has the band ever performed the CL version live - I know they've done the BF version on the Manifesto tour

This view supports my view that nobody does Ferry songs better than Roxy Music and that Bryan should realise that

Wasn't LST just all of the BF stuff that had been released up until then but not on a regular album - the exception being Casanova which I think was not available in any format prior to LST?

Of course, the inclusion of Casanova could be seen as an incentive for those who already had all of the of the singles and the EP to part with their cash.

My feeling is that the re-works of the 1st album were all done at or around the same time - albeit that they were drip fed to us as and when singles were released. I actually can't offer anything to back this up but I used to know things that I can no longer be certain about as time dulls the memory - and I think this is one of the things I used to know. On top of that, they sound to me as if they are from the same period in Bryan's musical evolution so I wondered if he had just re-worked all or most of the 1st album at that time.

As for when the solo version of Casanova was recorded, John is right to say that the conventional assumption that this happened after the RM version could be wrong. I know that logically this could be the case but it doesn't seem likely to me (and I don't think John really believes this either as the "Songs" section of this site describes it as a re-work of the RM original).

Re-make/re-model was done in spring '75 along with you go to my head, heart on my sleeve (which was I believe recorded before the original came out) and most of the stuff released in '76, Spedding, Mel Collins and Neil Hubbard who were at the forefront of that sound didn't come on board until probably mid to late '75 so sea breezes came from those 75/76 sessions too, slight changes in Ferry's vocals are usually a giveaway.

Thanks for clearing that up, wrighta. It just goes to show that I am right to doubt myself sometimes. Oh dear !

This is far from being my worst Roxy related memory lapse however. Not so long ago, I mentioned to a good friend that I had missed out on the Manifesto tour when it came to town. He just laughed and said that I was definitely there but that he wasn't too surprised that I couldn't remember much about it. Anyway, by checking out some details on this site then it turns out that he was right - no doubt about it.

I am not nearly as loopy as this must make me sound. I think my confusion was down to getting my wires crossed over a postponed In Your Mind gig combined with spending far too much time and money in the pub before the Manifesto concert for anything to sink in ( this is not normal behaviour for me but, in my defence, I had a very good reason to be whooping it up big time that day, which I won't bore you with).

Anyway, your clarification above nips in the bud any hope that there might be some more BF re-works in the vault of songs from the 1st RM album. Cheers for that !

Strangely, one thing that I nearly mentioned in my last post but didn't (because I thought I must be wrong) was about Heart On My Sleeve. Wasn't there a wee bit more to it though i.e. something about Gallagher and Lyle having no particular plans for the song until they heard what Bryan had done with it - or am I havering again?

Hey Avondale. you were sat beside me at the Manifesto gig at the Apollo. it was the second of two nights and the one show of the tour that BF didn't wear the red leather suit!!!

Blimey, Jerry, I must have been even more under the influence than I thought. You'd think I would at least remember BF fronting up the band in just his underwear.

I will have to pick your brain for some pointers from that night because I am truly struggling to remember much about it.

Will drop you an email sometime soon and see if you can help me fill some of the blanks.

That will have been the lime green leather suit and Gary Tibbs bass or Manzanera's guitar slipping out of tune at the beginning of manifesto. I think he wore a black leather suit earlier in the tour as well

A 40th anniversary deluxe edition of T.Rex's "Electric Warrior" is due for release this month.

Image

Description:
"2012 Limited Edition Super Deluxe Edition of Electric Warrior housed in a lavish box set which is foil blocked and de-bossed with 2 CDs plus a DVD of rare and unreleased TV performances & promos, a 32-page hardback book featuring a new essay from Bolan biographer Mark Paytress. The box also includes reproductions of rare photos and memorabilia: a poster including a timeline, three photographs, a coaster and a vintage press release. The DVD includes lots of rare footage including the only two surviving Top of the Pops performances from the BBC archive of T Rex's Electric Warrior-era hits - "Hot Love" and "Get It On" & much more. 46 tracks."

This is the model I'd love Ferry and co. to take with the Roxy deluxe - I've little use for a coaster or vintage press release, mind. It's priced at a fair $75 or £30 on the respective Amazon sites.

US$75 for a two-CD set is not cheap no matter how "deluxe" it might be - T-Rex is essentially unknown in The States except for Bang a Gong which was a big hit in early '72 - but in the US T-Rex/Marc Bolan was almost the definition of a One-Hit Wonder. They may sell a couple of thousand copies but beyond that...

With this as a model, the 8-CD Roxy Complete reissue will be listed at well more than $100 in US. In Britain it will be around £100.
