No one is forced to buy this. Those who buy it want to and those that don't won't so no need to complain it is on the record shop shelf.

Very true. But if nobody voiced their opinions or disappointment about anything, would that achieve anything ? I doubt it.
This was what was going on with every tour since 2001 We got the same songs on every tour. A tired ,lazy band. Remember ? Like it or lump it was the message. But after a load of "complaining" look what we got. A blistering load of new songs on the 2011 tour. We got 2HB, Prairie Rose, To Turn Y ou on, Amazona, Sentimental Fool, Pyjamarama, and a few others.
I rest my case.

We didn't get a new Roxy album though.

There's certainly nothing horrible about the Roxy Music catalog getting yet another public release but, as an owner of "The Thrill of it All" boxset and decent cds of the band's studio albums, this is not something that I see any reason to get excited about.

It's pretty much business as usual for Roxy, BF, and the record company to figure out a way to leverage the 40th Anniversary into yet another opportunity to repackage the catalog. Business as usual, and presumably it will result in a few tens of thousands of albums sold - for PM, AM and TGPT that will provide a bit of welcome income; for BF the extra income will be welcome but I don't know how important it will be to him compared to a major Watch Company endorsement (to pick a currant example) or a private gig for a Russian oligarch.

For me, I hope that plans for a live album from the 2011 Roxy tour haven't been shelved. That is something I would buy.

I'd like to know who deleted my post earlier.

It was a couple paragraphs, so I'd like
to know if I have to re-type it.

ANYONE KNOW? JOHN? WAS IT YOU?

I have no special knowledge, but I am not aware that posters have the ability to delete other people's posts. It is not something that, to the best of my memory, has occurred in the past. I think it is far more likely that there was simply a glitch in the system that caused a posting to disappear.

I have not deleted any post in this thread so I don't know what has happened. I will ask the company that I pay to look after the technical stuff here.

I do have the facility to remove or edit posts. If I did that I would contact the member who posted and explain why I removed a post.

I have removed some spam that occasionally slips the net. I have only ever once removed a regular members post as it was not in keeping with the spirit of the forum and broke the simple rules if using this forum.

Thanks for clarifying Jon & DCJ.

maybe I mis-clicked or took long typing and my login expired.

As Ian said, "I rest my case".

What I responded to that was: it's a big job starting
and maintaining a band. You have to write, arrange the
music, organize rehearsals, get everyone on-board, etc.

As a song-writer and having started a band, I know what
it's like. As David Bowie says, it ain't easy.

I was always patient but anxious for the 'next album' to come
out, and I know it was several years sometimes. For me,
it was worth the wait.

With the 40th anniversary coming up, I can't wait for the
The Complete Studio Recordings to come out!

I rest my case.

"Very true. But if nobody voiced their opinions or disappointment about anything, would that achieve anything ? I doubt it."

Every opinion is valid in my book no matter if I agree or disagree that's the beauty of reasoned discussion.

The point I am making is that it has be intimated/hinted etc that there are the gems from the archive that the die hards want are to be released later this year.

To take the example of the tour; the set list last year was superb but for a band like Roxy Music to afford to play Amazona, 2HB, Sentimental Fool, etc the have to support that by playing Jealous Guy, Love Is The Drug, Avalon etc to the bigger part of the crowd. I can assure you there was a fan invloved in pointing out what songs die-hards would love to hear and how long some songs had remained unplayed.

In a similar way: for Roxy Music to suppport the time effort, money, research, etc etc to put together a deluxe expanded release that ultimately has limited appeal I would imagine they have to simultaneously sell something that has a more mass appeal.

Anyone who wants the content of 'The Complete' box set are getting that on April 2nd. Anyone who wants more obscure unreleased/rare stuff are also getting that later in the year.

Can I also point a few things about the comparison with The Thrill of It All. That release missed out a lot of album tracks. Disc 4 was incomplete and missed out a b-side as well as other stuff now on 'The Complete'. The Numberer was in mono and the new issue has corrected that. South DOwns will be the right way round on this new issue and Manifesto Re-make will be the actual version that was on the b-side to Over You. The booklet on TTOIA stated that Avalon was the single version but in fact it was just the album version. Meticulous detail has gone in to making sure The Complete will be exactly what it says it is to the point that since the press release has been released it has intimated that one single that had slight subtle differences on the 7" and it will now be included on The Complete

It may be the way I phrased it.. I was disappointed because I originally thought that this release was all they had to offer as a 40th anniversary celebration. A slightly better version of The Thrill of it All. No new stuff.Just a repackaging of old, already issued stuff. I could have come up with that idea !! But now I know there's more to come,I'm very happy.
