Gee, ain't it funny how some people write reviews as if they know it all and they think their word is final - take it or leave it - that they are such an expert on a band, and how they like this album or song or don't like this album or that song. Reminds me of a spoiled brat that can never be pleased no matter what you do.

The Bogus Man a highlight? At concerts, this is the time to go to the toilet. It`s sleepy music.

Dear Le Freak
The Bogus Man is always the highlight of any gig for me. Shame it's only 9 + minutes. NB this is not an ironic comment, I really do love that track!!

Well, it definetely doesn`t stand for music that is foreign to me. But where does this track "come from"? It sure ain`t a typical Roxy track. I wouldn`t call it psychedelia, and it sure ain`t The Velvets.
-Pseudo psychedelia, then? Yeah, that`s it, pseudo psychedelia.

I consider The Bogus Man to be BF's take on 1930s German Cabaret a la Kurt Weill and the Three Penny Opera etc. Here's an interesting version of Mack the Knife recorded in the 30s - more melodic than TBM but the sensibility is is not so different.

Bogus Man..it's the sinister synth strings that make this song what it is..no other band sounded like that in 1973

Indeed yoho, Bogus Man is sinister, and true, no-one sounded like that.

Each time I play this song to someone for the first time, the question always is: "who this?"

They always say it's scary. When I'm in traffic with lots of people close-by, I crank it! You should see the looks on the people's faces.

TBM is unique, a stunning piece of work in my opinion, I get goosebumps when I hear it. Didn't Paul Thompson say TBM was described to him by someone as "Germanic Reggae?" (or Krautrock reggae), which he thought was hilarious. I'd go for Crypt Reggae meself..... ;)

Bogus is probably my favourite ever song. Many reasons. Certainly FYP, dream home, pearl, stronger thru the years, manifesto etc are all up there for me....I like the dark tones and lyrics on these....but bogus was sinister enough when I was a teenager to really wow me.so my personal nostalgia plays a role here.

I too love the "strings" (mellotron actually I believe). But for me, the real killer is the "chckp" repetition and sinister panting at the end. Oh, and the words ;) he'll get to you. Evil hunting.
