Post subject:  Alternate/Unreleased Track from Avalon Sessions?

Hi All,

About 6 months ago, I heard a song on the radio that was unmistakably Roxy Music, but I had never heard before.

Sonically, it had the sound and production from Avalon but it was a track I was not familiar with!? You can imagine my interest. At the end of the radio show, the host made reference to it being included in a limited or special release by Roxy Music celebrating either:

a) their career, or,
b) the anniversary (or similar) of the album Avalon.

Does anyone know what "dreamy" track I might have heard? It had the same feel (and perhaps tempo) of the song Avalon, if I remember correctly. Similar instrumentation of the early 80s too - synthesizers at the forefront if I recall right.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks for reading!

It was probably Always Unknowing.

Hot damn!

You were right - I just had a quick listen on youtube. Wow, how could that be unreleased?

Thank you for your help!

It wasn't entirely unreleased: it was the b-side of the Avalon 45 rpm vinyl single and I think it later turned up added to the SACD (21st anniversary) release of the Avalon album.

I'm glad I know the title of the song now!

I am now exploring how to get it in my hands, (and in my ears) and I appreciate the tip about the SACD Avalon disc.

Thank you for your help.

It's on The Thrill Of It All, the four cd set.

You can buy a 5.1 surround version on EBAY for at least £99

Boys And Girls got the same treatment too.

I have both of them but don't have the equipment to hear them in 5.1

I remember buying the Avalon CD in SACD when it was first released thinking my normal DVD player would automatically play it in 5.1 surround. As technology is my enemy, I called someone I knew who was much younger. He told me that I needed an SACD player. So off I went to buy one. The entry price then for a Sony SACD player was about £400.00. So I bought one. Logic to me, my wife's logic was...£420.00 for a blo*** CD! However, Avalon and Boys and Girls along with parts of Frantic are the best examples I've ever heard in SACD. Always Unknowing is absolutely sublime in this format and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
