There is a interview with El Ferrari in the latest Q - some titbits
1. The new album is called Olympia
2. The album features Andy Phil and Eno - who according to Ferry only play the odd bit here and there but were all in the same room. He says he toyed with the idea of a new Roxy album but went solo instead. He also says the Andy and Phil are at he top of their game these days.
3. Mani is on two tracks
4. Mani, Flea and Marcus Miller are on one track together!!!
5. You Can Dance is the first single
Make of that what you will
Cheers
Richard - looking forward to Loveboxx

Flea is the Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player and Mani performs a similar role for Primal Scream - he was also in The Stone Roses

I'm looking forward to this new album. Olympia is a nice name. I don't see how these musicians are "scumbags." I think that it's good that "You can dance" will be on a full length album, it gives it the grounding it needs. From what I have heard Manzanera and Mackay are still great. Really excited to see what he does with Eno, too. I loved "I Thought" from Frantic. Are there going to be any cover versions on this album? Thanks!

Sounds good so far. Good title as well.
I just wonder how Andy and Phil feel about this. Did they originally know that they were working on the new Bryan album, or were they assuming that they were working on the next Roxy Album.
I suppose this will skittle Phil's original list of 16 (?) finished Roxy songs to less than an album full.
Looks as if Bryan does have the final say at the end of the day.
Stephen.

Phil, Andy and Eno are mentioned but Paul Thompson was present at those sessions and isn't mentioned.

I know how I feel about this. To paraphrase one of the band's biographers "the worst Roxy Music record is better than the best Bryan Ferry record" so I remain hopeful that the next album will be as good as The Bride Stripped Bare.

Post subject: St.Learraine, the quote is from David Buckley Posted: Tue Jul 06, 2010 3:13 am |

It's from David Buckley's book "The Thrill of It All." "the worst Roxy Music record is better than the best Bryan Ferry record" from the preface page xiii. This book is only worthwhile for the interesting quotes from the band members, which Buckley does not footnote.
How can you compare a solo record to a group record? It's apples and oranges. Frankly, I love all the Bryan Ferry solo records that I've heard so far. (I still have to listen to As Time Goes By, Mamouna, and Dylanesque, but I've heard some cuts on youtube that are good). Buckley doesn't understand what covering a song means and thinks "good music=rocks out." He doesn't appreciate the tenderness and the beauty of Bryan Ferry's voice.
