I do however challenge DJC's notion that "Make me a deal.." referenced a commercial contract (although I do love his obsession with Ferry's wonga). Where I come from that expression had much more fun connotations but I can well understand why one would like to posthumously explain it away in such a manner.

I, too, heard this line was attributed to Bryan's desire for a fair record deal at that time, and it depicts a dialogue with his lawyer, Robert E. Lee (namesake of the general, but actually Bry's lawyer)

Cher DJC & Roxysiren,
Profuse apologies - you are both right and I stand corrected.
With renowned Roxyologists like you in existence the realm will always be defended.

And I read somewhere the lawyer was actually a lass named "Roberta Lee," and Bryan made the name change into the General as a wonderful and typical BF tripartite pun!!

I do believe that it is Robert and if I'm not mistaken his name still crops up in the credits in tour programmes and some album credits.
