Ok, as it is a little quiet just now, I'd thought I would just mention that I will soon be getting married. Traditionally the first dance should be a highlight at the wedding party, and a chance to dance in front of all the guests to a favourite song. I failed to find a suitable Roxy/Bryan to dance to (medium/fast fox trot tempo) which is a shame, so it looks like being a Barry White classic for me. Would anyone choose a Roxy/Bryan song to dance to, or perhaps have already done so! please share!!
All the best, Stephen

My 35th Wedding Anniversay was only last week and I really can't remember the first dance being such a big thing back in 1978. Or maybe it is just my old brain cells failing me!! We had a live band and I think we just danced to whatever they played. "Love is in the Air" was the big song at the time and they played that twice. I think weddings have changed a lot since then and everything seems grander now. It is difficult as you might love the melody of a song but then find the lyrics are not really suitable. If I had to pick now I think Slave to Love or Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever. Good Luck for your big day when it arrives SP! PS, can I make a guess at the Barry White song, is it The First, The Last, My Everything?

Stephen - Firstly, congratulations on the impending nuptials. Have a fantastic day. Secondly, and far more importantly, why does your 'first' dance have to be medium or quick tempo? There are many BF / Roxy ballads that could get your married life off to a good start but surely an understood and wholly appropriate potential crowd-pleaser would be 'Make You Feel My Love'? All the best to you both.

Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever is a nice pick. The sentiment invoke by the lyrics is very well suited for a wedding. One of BF's lost classics from TFT.
I hope the negotiations for your pre-nup went smoothly...

If so, ATGB seems an obvious source - maybe The Way You Look Tonight or, if that song's tempo is too lively, then You Do Something To Me

StephenPep,
As the pro ballroom dancer here, I'd go with Avondale's choice of "You Do Something To Me", which is good medium tempo foxtrot, that is if you know the foxtrot.
If you don't, try "I'm In The Mood For Love".
tongue-in-cheek: How about?: "Another One Bites The Dust"?
CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations, Stephen. When I donned the matrimonial manacles 20 years ago the groom was expected to dance with the bride, then with each of the two mothers, so the spotlight may be on you for longer than you thought! Don't think I'm a good example for you, though: have a feeling I got Clapton's Wonderful Tonight (chosen by the bride!), a Nat "King" Cole (can't recall whether When I Fall In Love or Unforgettable) with mother-in-law, then Perry Como's And I Love Her So (my dear old mum's all-time fave...)! Unless the future Mrs Pep has a real sense of humour, I suggest you skip Tammy Wynette's D.I.V.O.R.C.E. (although Billy Connolly's cover version might get more laughs...) and Engelbert's Please Release Me... Hope the big day goes well; have loads of photos, as you'll be surprised how much of it whizzes by at warpspeed...

Engelbert is perfect, and waaaaaaaaaaaaay superior to Bryan. There is so much to choose from (the 60s stuff). My favourites: Release Me Les Bicyclettes De Belzise Spanish Eyes Am I That Easy To Forget Love Me With All Your Heart The Way It Used To Be The Last Waltz
-phew...

Stephen asked for suggestions for BF or RM songs from the fans here, so it appears some here have other ideas. (noted)
I didn't even think of those other artists mentioned, however, when I had a couple getting those "matrimonial manacles" (good one Smudge!), and who wanted me to choreograph a waltz, some would choose "Could I Have This Dance" by Anne Murray, with is a perfect 3/4 time signature song with great lyrics.
Stick with "You Do Something To Me".
Can you foxtrot Stephen?
