Lester Bangs is arguably the "Ultimate American Rock Critic of the 1970s" and, despite these laughable comments, he largely sums up how America came to view Siren-era BF and Roxy (his take on Bowie is far less cogent - Bowie was a big star in the USA and Fame hit Number One in the charts in '75).

The artful artifice that BF brought to his music/stage persona was entirely lost on both LB and Mass America. LITD just slipped into the US Top 40 Charts, forever branding BF as a disco 'lounge lizard" that he only partially shed when Flesh and Blood and Avalon found an audience of young college-age women (and some men) in the early 80s.

The perspective expressed by LB in this clip still lives on, and lies at the heart of why Roxy Music has yet to be inducted into the (so-called) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
