Jesmond /UK Richard ..... I'm afraid you're wide of the mark regards Manifesto being the best opening Roxy track ever...
'Do the Strand' I think you'll find is not only the best opening Roxy Music track but arguably the best opening LP track of the 1970's !

Anyway I've included the Greatest Hits to get my 20 tracks...

Ladytron / If there is something (RM)

Do the Strand / Beauty Queen (FYP)

A Song For Europe / Serenade (the best Roxy Music single NEVER released) (Stranded)

The Thrill of it All (another brilliant opener) / Casanova (CL)

Love is the Drug / Both End Burning (only no. 25 in UK singles chart...travesty) (Siren)

Pyjamarama / If There is Something (Ferry never sounded better live) (Viva)

Manifesto (and another classic opener) / Angel Eyes (original mix) (Manifesto)

Same Old Scene / Over You (FB)

Avalon / To Turn You On (though I do prefer the 12" Jealous Guy
B side mix) (Avalon)

Virginia Plain / Pyjamarama (Greatest Hits)

Merry Christmas ...

Not at all easy this, in fact I found it impossible to list the top 20 in order. Here's my top 20 anyway:

Virginia Plain (single)
If There is Something (RM)
Pyjamarama (single)
Do The Strand (FYP)
Editions of You (FYP)
Dream home (Viva)
Song for Europe (Stranded)
Mother of Pearl (Stranded)
Out of the Blue (CL)
Bitter Sweet (CL)
Love if the Drug (Siren)
Sentimental Fool (siren)
Both Ends Burning (Viva)
Manifesto (Manifesto)
Stronger through the years (Manifesto)
Same old scene (F&B)
My only love (F&B)
To Turn you on (B side)
More than this (Avalon)
Avalon (Avalon)

For my part, whilst I think it's a cracking track and a great album opener, my thoughts were more around the way it opened up the 1979 tour dates - the intro builds to such a wonderful crescendo which coincided with BF's entrance. Magical.

A song for Europe
Avalon
Running wild
True to life
Take a chance with me
Just like you
My only love
If there is something
Out of the blue
While my heart is still beating
Same old scene
Both ends burning
All I want is you
More than this
Prairie rose
Just another high
To turn you on
Sentimental fool
Love is the drug
Manifesto

And in my opinion the live from 2001 is far better than !Viva! !

Cher Dexter,
This is, indeed, the problem - they are all fabulous!
Happy Christmas,
Windswept.

Hi Windswept,

My favourite Ferry song - among others ;)

Merry Christmas to you and your family, too.
Frohe Weihnachten von Deutschland.

SB asked for 20 tracks, limited to 2 from Viva! and each of the studio albums; I've therefore added 2 singles to round out the numbers.

The task was hard enough (e.g. how to omit anything at all from FYP!) without trying to work out a running order! ;)

Roxy Music - Re-Make/Re-Model; Ladytron.
For Your Pleasure - Beauty Queen; For Your Pleasure.
Stranded - Psalm; A Song For Europe.
Country Life - The Thrill Of It All; Out Of The Blue.
Siren - Both Ends Burning; Whirlwind.
Viva! - If There Is Something; In Every Dream Home A Heartache.
Manifesto - Manifesto; Still Falls The Rain.
Flesh & Blood - My Only Love; In The Midnight Hour.
Avalon - The Main Thing; To Turn You On.
bonus - Virginia Plain; Pyjamarama.

Send them to the site here by 29th December and I will collate them and list it all on New Year's Day. The tracks and the albums from which they came. It will be our top 20!

Crayon at the ready!

I think Sadie's Boyfriend will find that he has a promise to live up to... ;)
