...domain has now expired (not that there was anything interesting remaining on it at the end anyway, but still....)

So that could be it then, have we have finally turned the last page?
Perhaps BF will remind himself of all the reasons he gave back in 2001 when he got RM back together and do it again? Or perhaps he won't.
It's only a web site though!

This is a lump of coal in the Christmas stockings of all RM fans.

The info on whois indicates that the registration expired on Dec 9th, but it doesn't appear to have reached the point where someone else could claim the URL for their own purposes. See

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/r ... usic.co.uk

It would foolish of BF and the gang to let the URL go, because even if they never play or even speak to each other again, they all have an interest in promoting the Roxy catalog of recordings. It may be a long time before any meaningful website gets linked to the URL, but I will surprised if they simply let the URL get claimed/registered by someone else. But who knows...

To all intents and purposes there hasn't been a half decent (official!) Roxy site for ages and the lack of of anything other than an advert for the complete box set for a year or more was poor to say the least. Going forward, if one of the UK's greatest and most influential bands end up with nothing official that at least commemorates and celebrates their wonderful legacy it's downright poor.

I agree with DCJ that retaining/regaining control of the domain name is important. It would, to follow up UKRichard's valid point, be nice to see the site developed, if only with stuff from the historical treasure trove BF must have.

Apart from the boxed set (which was only really a link to Amazon anyway, from what I recall), it was a way of finding the Firebrand merch store, which still exists at http://roxymusic.firebrandstore.com/

I suspect the store will shortly be consumed within the revamped BF website, together with http://bryanferry.firebrandstore.com/

(Memo to Team BF: many US bands slash the prices of merch from previous tours... ;))

Not so long ago there was a lot of hope (even anticipation) that deluxe versions of the original Roxy albums would be released, presumably with previously unreleased live tracks or alternative versions/mixes (i.e. mixes created during the original recording process) of various songs.

But this all seems so remote now. The principals of Roxy can't even interact with one another to the point of maintaining a bare-bones Roxy Music website. What a sad state of affairs.

It seems now that there will never be a 9th Roxy album, and even live dates seem unlikey, so is there any real need for a dedicated official Roxy Music site - and with the lack of activity, could it add any more than the unofficial ones do already?

As for the deluxe versions of the Roxy albums - these were partly put back when Roxy's catalogue transferred record company's and there was disruption in release schedules. Also, the deluxe versions are not going to sell in the quantities they might have if released years ago. Although, I still look forward to there eventual release one day.

It's all down to BF in the end. If he chooses to reform then it will happen. I doubt it will.
However, I think he is deluded in thinking that putting out the Dylan thing, Olympia & the latest woeful effort will suffice. No doubt for some folk it will and I am happy for them.
Can I be a RM fan and not a BF fan? I don't know but I've not been to a BF concert since Frantic, but I have been to many RM concerts since.
This is only my opinion and I don't wish to offend anyone.

Given that JO'B has told us in the past how the basic work (and quite a lot of it) had been done on the deluxe editions of the first album (and maybe FYP too?) it is sad that if not the artist then their management can't bang some record company heads together and get these released. So they won't sell in vast quantities, but they represent income for minimum further effort for whoever puts them out and it improves the legacy of a beloved band.

I enjoy BF's solo work but probably not as much if I'm honest as when he's together with Messrs Mackay, Manzanera and Thompson. I think you can be a fan of an artist without liking everything they do without criticism. I'm a big Springsteen fan and prefer him with the E Street Band so his 2006 Seeger Sessions album wasn't something I would automatically have wanted him to do, but the shows he did supporting that record were some of the most enjoyable of his I've ever attended. I suspect Gary that you'd have really enjoyed the recent shows - I only went to the RAH one but it was inspired. Go and enjoy it for what it is, don't avoid it because it's not what you think it ought to be.
