My wife (who is somewhat younger than me) is a big fan of Arcade Fire. I gather that Mr Ferry himself is an admirer. And yet, and yet. I listen. I admire the emotional swirl of some of the tunes, the hypnotic swell of the choruses. But where is the brio, the vim, the vigour? Is there anything unexpected? I can sort of see it, but it all strikes me as a bit drab when compared with the mighty Roxy. On the other hand, they've only charged us £25 for tickets to see them, so they can't be all bad. Scores on the doors. Roxy Rovers 9, Arcade Thistle 8. Thoughts, my fellow Roxifianados? |

Your wife has a great taste in music imo, apparently so has her husband  My fav vid by them comes with another great singer, David Bowie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-wEBmLht5g I've seen them live once, in 2006 and I liked them. I bought their new album .. and there are a few great moments ... The title track ...... and I particularly like Rococo... deep, dark... full of disdain and celebration ! But I also feel it could be 2 or three songs shorter ... I also feel that some of the songs plateau and don't really maintain the momentum promised in the first 2 minutes ....... |
