awww...Windswept2, you shouldn't listen to "impersonators" doing Roxy or Bryan in the future if it upsets you.

I am a huge Bowie fan and have every album. Love his early stuff and his later stuff but not so keen on the middle period Let's Dance through to Tin Machine. J.O'B. |

I generally like David Bowie and since he did a lot to support Roxy Music in their early years I believe he deserves a little bit of respect around here  I once stumbled across a short youtube snippet where he performed an accoustic version of If There Is Something, but unfortunately only the first couple of lines. That was really amazing, I liked it much better than the full band version. I think it was from an MTV interview, but I can't find it anymore. Does anybody know if he ever published an accoustic version of If There Is Something? |

Thanks for posting this version, Roxyboy. Although D. Bowies hard rock phases are not my kind of thing, I think it is an exciting version of ITIS. Namely because IMO a pop/rock cover version has to be as different from the original as possible (unless you are playing in a party band ...). Think of all the originals out of which B. Ferry created completely new songs. Remember 1973 when the ironic "A Hard Rain" was a sacrilege to all B. Dylan fans! And how B. Ferry created jazz versions out of his rock tunes. Moreover, he will add orchestral arrangements in Dublin these days (lots of fun to those who will be there!). PS: My favorite Bowie song is "The Man Who Sold The World", a re-recording from 1995 (with Brian Eno's sonic treatment and a nervous beat). Also very far from the original  .

C'mon!!!! Bowie is the other true great, surely. I love the line in that superb art house movie (which was based around ITIS) starring Daniel Craig, Flashbacks of a Fool. Quoted from Bowie's own website (yet again name checking and bigging up our Bry) is some of the dialogue which says it all, as far as I'm concerned: "How can you choose between David Bowie and Bryan Ferry? They are gods!" - Ruth presents Joe with an imponderable to dizzy all self-respecting Glam Rocker's heads in a memorable scene from the film. Takes me right back (when you were young)... Monday sees the release of the soundtrack CD for Baillie Walsh's film: Flashbacks Of A Fool via Vital. It's a jolly decent affair featuring a couple of tunes each from David Bowie and Roxy Music.
