So here is my question regarding the Frejus concerts that the BBC filmed. Why didn't they play "More Than This"?

This was the tour to promote the album Avalon and MTT was one of the major tracks on the album. So why didn't they play it? This never made sense to me...

They rehearsed it for that tour. It was played at the first show in Ireland and then they dropped it for the rest of the tour.

I have often read that MTT was hard to reproduce on stage. The sound is rather complex. In fact the studio version is not easy to play live, so I think they knew why not to play on this tour very often. Also in later years various live versions didn`t convince in my mind.

Also, I seem to recall Bryan saying in an interview something along the lines that he didn't know why he had recorded it in such a high key and that it made it difficult to sing live.

The MTT version included in the 2001 Tour live cd was quite good IMHO. They only played the song five times during the tour (all the Japan dates in early September) and it might not be as polished as many of the other tracks of the album that they played for the bulk of the tour. But it sounds good nonetheless (and was in lower key than the original studio version).

Clearly they decided back in '82 not to play it on tour, but it leaves a hole in the BBC/Frejus concert video (of course the BIG hole is the absence of TGPT but that is a different story...)
