Sadly, it has been reported that bass player John Gustafson died yesterday.

Very sad to hear that. He was a genius. May he rest in peace.

Tick Tock Tick Tock...

This is sad news.

You don't see many pix of JG with the band - this is a nice photo.

Note that BF is smoking a cigarette. Oh to be young and think that youth (and supple vocal chords) will last forever...

I once saw an interview with Nile Rodgers where he mentioned that Bernard Edwards' famous bassline on "Good Times" was inspired by Gustafson's bass on "Love is the Drug".

Mes Amis,
How sad it is when the people that have laid down some of our life's soundtracks pass.
Windswept is pretty sure he saw this guy play at Newcastle City Hall in the early '70s. It was a great gig!
His thoughts go to his family and friends at this difficult time.
RIP John.
Regards,
Windswept.

Not sure if this interview has been posted elsewhere in VRM...

Hipsters,
What a great article.
Somewhat spookily, 'The Big Three' featured in last nights biopic - 'Cilla'.
Doubtless John and that other great Ferry contributor, the late great Mick Green, are forming a new band with the Angels.
a bien tôt,
Windswept

Very sad indeed - didn't realize until now that he was the inventor of the famous LITD bass line which may have inspired Bernard Edwards of Chic according to Lonely Dreamer. They will surely be friends in bass players' heaven.

By the way my girl friend asked me if anybody at VRM knows which car engine is being started at the beginning of LITD. I guess it was a British sports car (six-cylinder?), maybe an early E Type or something like that. Any ideas?
