Elegantly Ageing Hipsters,

Another masterpiece from Roxy's amazing repository!

It's great to read Richard Williams from those halcyon days when 'Top Gear' was a BBC light radio music programme and not a vehicle for a loud mouthed motor journalist to beat up producers!

W2 had almost forgotten that David O'List preceded Phil - and it would appear, according to this article, that he did some shows with them? Interesting n'est-ce-pas?

Given the date of the article, maybe he appeared with them at 'The Hand & Flower' in February '72. Certainly, by the time Windswept saw them at 'Redcar Jazz Club', Phil was wielding the axe.

Funny how Richard mixes up the name of Bryan's previous band and 'The Gas Board' becomes 'The Gas Works'. Strangely enough, there was another NE band around at the same time called 'The Jazz Board' - it was all very confusing.

Isn't it just great to read 'The Melody Maker' from that time? W2 dreams of seeing out his dotage surrounded by old copies of the MM & NME with a bottle of Talisker at hand.

Encore une fois un très grand merci a Roxy for taking the trouble to post this.

Salutations,

W2

According to the Roxy Bible here in the pages of VRM, O'List joined the band in September 1971 and left in February 1972 with Phil M joining on February 14th 1972. They played The Hand & Flower on 18th February 72.
