I know what you mean. There's a good feel sometimes even if it's not a difficult piece to play. Jimmy Page is reputed to be a great guitarist, Hendrix as well, but I can't hear any feeling in their play,, but I can when I hear Spedding or Hubbard.

Blimey! I know we all hear things differently, Ian, but you must be in a very distinct minority if you perceive more feeling in the playing of Neil Hubbard than that of Jimi Hendrix (or have I misunderstood?)!

Hendrix' playing is deeply rooted in the blues (the same, to a more diluted degree, might be claimed by Page) and there can't be a genre with more feeling in it than the blues (i.e. there would have been no jazz or rock without it).

I know some find Hendrix' voice a bit of an acquired taste (I feel the same about Dylan, although he's written some great songs...), but there's plenty of feeling in his playing. Sorry if we've dragged this thread a bit off the beaten track...

It's just a personal taste thing. Hendrix and Page are fast and furious but at times Hubbard and certainly Spedding's work on the 2001 tour (listen to Mother of Pearl with headphones float my boat ! Hendrix and Page may be better guitarists but too much noise !

I can deal with Bryan deteriotion vote. Most of us show signs of wear as the years pass. I did not even expect major new songs because it is dry. But they are all comparable with other singers and songwriters. None of the 70's is to write something remarkable. in my opinion. What I can not reconcile with the lack of action at every turn. same songs, same arrangements, same staging, and most likely the same clothes as well!
