I like this music. I have one LP of each.
ABC`s “Lexicon of Love” is fine. The production by Trevor Horn is a bit hard, and can be tireing in the long run. The bass playing is remarkable. The singing is strong and crooning. The synths and clipped guitars are just lovely.
Fiction Factory`s “Throw The Warped Wheel Out” is a bit softer in the production, but the vein is remarkably the same. Strong crooning, lovely synths, clipped guitars and a bass as hard as an iron rod. It opens with the well known “Feels Like Heaven”. Apart from “Ghost of Love”, the other songs aren`t quite as strong. However, each song, save for “Hit The Mark”, has that break in the chorus/ verse structure that saves my day.
I once bought Alphaville`s “Afternoons In Utopia”, instead of “Big In Japan”, because I thought it was a more coherent album. The production is flawless. The voices are smooth as silk. Who needs CDs? 80s` LPs are as good as any CD.
How would Bryan view these ones? Would he be sniffy? Ah, sorry, he loves his guitars...
I read at allmusic.com that all those 3 albums have been modelled with the singing of BryanFerry as a source of inspiration.
