Eagle Rock Entertainment is a legitimate company that, through its subsidiaries, has released a multitude of CDs and DVDs and vinyl records. Here's a wikipedia link:

I thought the 2001 Live Roxy CD Eagle released was very high quality. I would imagine that the vinyl version would also be of high quality...

I phoned Universal distribution in London today; the lady I spoke to confirmed that they've only just acquired responsibility for Eagle Rock.

She didn't know about this set, but did some online research while we spoke and ultimately concluded that it looked like a US item, which would only appear over here as an import.

I also read online that it's a limited edition of 2000 copies.

Given that the BF Island singles box is not getting a Record Store Day release in the USA, I'd be prepared to send the BF set to the States if a member there would send the Roxy 3LP set to me (unless they're coming over for the Palladium gigs and could do an exchange then?)... Just a thought; private message me if anyone's interested? Thanks.

I agree on one hand this could have been released in 2003 with the CD........but...... there wasn't the same market for vinyl then that there is now. I was in my local HMV the other day and there were aroud 350 different LPs in stock in the Vinyls section of the store. (Avonmore was the sole RM/BF representative)

I think the timing of this release now is more to do with the new market for vinyl.

Hipsters,

J.O'B's message about the market is doubtless correct but W2 questions the choice.

Surely vinylistas either want the classics - in which case why not release a box set of our hero's solo work to complement the existing RM offer - or, they want something new, different and better. In which case why not release 'The Tolwood Tapes' with the BFO on vinyl and/or 'Live In Paris At Le Grand Rex'.

The '01 live album is an OK record (most of the arrangements are a little too fast) but IWNSHO it doesn't bring anything new to the party and is just a bit of a strange choice - even the album art is a little bland.

On a more general point, the more the music industry changes, the more bizarre the actions of some artists become when it comes to marketing decisions.

IWNSHO, the core music market is now quite clear. It will be split between streaming and vinyl - neither of which will be mutually exclusive insomuch as households will embrace one or both mediums. Everything else - iTunes included - can be considered legacy.

As we speak, Mrs W is being worked on to release the space necessary to allow the Windswept household to rejoin the Vinyl gang. How he envies the thinking hipsters who have already made the move!

Aller, mes amis, l'avenir est clair and it's Vinyl.

Salutations,

W2

W2:
You are correct that there are parts of the 2001 Live cd that are at best only serviceable but not particularly great. For example, i skip the first two tracks (RM/RM and Streetlife) on the fisrt cd becuase they are too fast. But from from Ladyton through the end of the disc 1 it sounds pretty darn good IMHO. - I especially think that the live version of Oh Yeah is particularly evocative - as is PM's solo on While My Heart is Still Beating.

One of these days BF will release a CD/DVD of the Tolwood gig! You must believe, W2!

Spot on dcj ....but....I reckon the whole lot is pretty superb...and in the context of that wonderful gig, the speedy first two tracks work well too. Aah...bliss

Totally agree re vinyl and streaming polarisation. No room even for iTunes. Niche: extreme lossless digital may emerge.
...but what do I know? As a professional tech marketer, I once predicted to the CEO of a mobile phone company that there would never be a market for mobile phones for kids

Btw, Mrs W is always so classy....
