There are so many brilliant lyrics throughout the whole of the Roxy, Bryan cannon. As Mandy said it might be just a line or a whole song.

Some that spring to mind, for me are:

'You're dressed to kill and guess who's dying'
With those 8 words Bryan has managed to capture a feeling, a scene that would take a whole page of prose. His former love going out with her new man, dressed up to the nines and the old lover seeing them together is torn apart. Brings a lump to my throat when I hear it.

'....Running wild - like you do
When all your dreams came true....
....Running wild - like you do
When all your dreams fall through....
....Running wild - like we do
If only dreams came true....'
What I love about this set of lyrics is how Bryan just changes a couple of words and it changes the whole meaning.

Some of the imagery throughout whole songs is so stiking, evocative and beautiful....A Song For Europe, Mother Of Pearl. And then there's hopelessness, the end of a dream...Spin Me Round.

So many songs.......

It is very difficult to pick out one favourite, just too many that stick out but Beauty Queen is the one that always pops into my mind first.

Beauty Queen
(Ferry)
Valerie please believe
It never could work out
The time to make plans
Has passed, faded away
Oooh the way you look
Makes my starry eyes shiver
Then I look away
Too much for one day
One thing we share
Is an ideal of beauty
Treasure so rare
That even devils might care
Your swimming-pool eyes
In sea breezes they flutter
The coconut tears
Heavy-lidded they shed
Swaying palms at your feet
You're the pride of your street
While you worship the sun
Summer lover of fun
Gold number with neighbours
Who said that you'll go far
Maybe someday be a star
A fast mover like you
And your dreams will all come true
All of my hope, and my inspiration
I drew from you
Our life's pattern's drawn in sand
But the winds could not erase
The memory of your face
Deep in the night
Plying very strange cargo
Our soul-ships pass by
Solo trips to the stars - in the sky
Gliding so far
That the eye cannot follow
Where do they go
We'll never know

:)

"I would do anything for you
I would climb mountains
I would swim all the Oceans blue
I would walk a thousand miles
reveal my secrets
more than enough for me to share"

Sorry for having so many go's at this, I can't help it, and as others have said, there are far to many great Lyrics just to choose one 8-)

People Say, I'm Just A Fool
All The World, Even You
Should Learn To Love The Way I Do

Ah, brilliant words beautifully sung.

Thanks vivaroxymusic for the dr p stuff. special.

re ferry lyrics...the older i get, and the more (drug and sex) slang i pick up, bry's lyrics just seem to get darker and darker every time i read them again. there have always been some sexual/ansgt/obession/addiction references every place you look. what i think i now see is that even many of the lighter toned songs...and apparently light lyrics...are pretty full of menace, triple meaning etc etc. But then it could just be me getting more warped as time goes by.

Even an inconsequential song like my little girl has
There's a small cafe
where other's take their time
good for rainy day's
too bad the weather's fine
another hidden gem
