Any idea if MOJO or Uncut are planning a special issue devoted to Roxy Music? If so, one would hope that they trot out some unseen pics (that won't be in the box set book). :?

No responses. Too early to tell?

Not sure about special issues but I'm sure it'll get some decent coverage in time - the 'February' issues of Mojo and Uncut both hit shops before Christmas so on that basis I guess it'll be the March or even April editions.

I would expect tie-ins in both the main UK music mags with March issues of Uncut due in a couple of weeks and the bigger circulation Mojo a few days later. The weekend papers should have some decent coverage as well.

So far I have only seen a mention in the Guardian from earlier this month under the heading of Unmissable Culture 2018. Roxy are mentioned as one of twenty music highlights, which is encouraging.

The short statement is as follows:-
At the heart of Roxy Music's approach was the notion of pop as futuristic luxury goods: glitzy and alluring. So it's fitting that their 1972 debut is getting the super-deluxe treatment: four discs and a hardback book with BBC sessions, demos recorded in Brian Eno's flat, the only extant live footage of their 1972 lineup, and the renowned Virginia Plain Top of the Pops appearance.

Was the first demo actually recorded in "Brian Eno's flat"? Just wondering...

If nothing else this type of of promo material demonstrates that the "Eno Connection" is being featured front and center in promoting the box set...

The demo was recorded in a flat in Ladbroke grove and some of the pictures in the booklet are from those sessions including Dexter Lloyd

The reason the Dexter Lloyd has been hard to find on the internet other than a reference that he was part of the embryonic Roxy Music will be revealed in the book.

I tracked him down and interviewed him for the deluxe edition about 4 years ago. I will post that interview on this site once the deluxe edition is released.

Any chance of TV promotion? If Jonathan Ross still has his talk show, a spot on there will be good promotion. If he still has a radio show he will undoubtedly plug the release as he is a huge Roxy fan. Danny Baker and several others radio hosts and DJs are also big fans.

If it hasn't been done it would have been a good idea to put together fellow rock/pop performers memories of the album. I know Kate Bush & Roger Taylor ,(of Duran Duran), are big fans of it, as is Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. It would be useful to push just how influential Roxy were on punk/new wave & new romantic artists especially, as well as more modern day acts.

So... in the March edition of Mojo there's a five star, one page review by Mark Paytress - 'No album ever defaced the school of rock handbook with such extravagance as Roxy’s 1972 debut.'

In Uncut the package is reissue of the month and gets a more in-depth treatment - it's judged eight out of ten. 'Their debut still sounds like work in progress, but the sense of crystallising promise shines through this set. Not brilliant just yet, but very good indeed' - you can't please some people. There's also a one page interview with Phil, he still has the fly sunglasses!

But there's no sumptuous, extended glossy feature on the whole project in either magazine, which is a shame.

Uncut Magazine - March 2018. :)

No prizes for spotting the errors but otherwise a nice article.
