Post subject:  Ferry/Roxy Myths

To drum up a wee bit of interest and life in the forum, I thought I would do this as a bit of fun and compile a list of Myths about Ferry/Roxy that are just not true. Isn’t it annoying to read these sort of things continuously?

I hope some of you can add to it.

1 Bryan Ferry’s real name is not Brian Ferry. Don't you just hate seeing lazy journalism. There are a whole load of auctions on EBAY not selling because some people are not reading the name on the record they are selling.

2 Prairie Rose released in October 1974 was not written about Jerry Hall, he first met her in August 1975.

3 Bryan Ferry has not recorded anything worthwhile with Roxy or solo since 1978. (an opinion yes but surely someone with such a pedigree to that point can simply be that bad all of a sudden.)

4 Olympia is the Roxy 2006 sessions finished off by Ferry as a solo album. (This is not the case)

….can anyone add to this.

5 Bryan sang, or rather hummed backing vocals on Cliff Richard's hit 'We Don't Talk Anymore'.

John, your message is a bit grammatically incorrect....however;

The song by the Aussie raincoat gadgie was not Bryan.
But it was coolish.

Sorry, girls of Sunderland and Newcastle in the late 70s,
but i wasn't Bryan's brother!

Why did Bryan and Andy have a massive row about the Angel Eyes disco single when Bryan wanted all the royalties? Guess I answered that!

Infuriating lazy myth:
Eno wrote all the music when Roxy were great (only the first two albums).

(Actually, two myths compounded)

Bryan was offered the role of James Bond

Amanda Lear was originally a man

The set list for Live Aid was going to be Let’s stick together, Love is the drug and Virginia Plain until Freddie Mercury convinced Bryan that Sensation was more of a crowd pleaser.....

What about The Emperor Himself allegedly going to leave Roxy and join Mott the Hoople?

6. Bryan at one time was engaged to Amanda Lear.

7. "Beauty Queen" was written about actress Valerie Leon, there is no evidence they were ever an item.

8. Bryan is the son of a miner.......his father was a farm labourer and once the depression hit he started to look after the pit ponies underground.

May or may not be a myth. Trash was written about Jerry Hall.

- Bryan married the former girl friend of his son (Amanda Sheppard).

- Bryan is not only conservative but has a rather fascist mind (F + B cover in the Leni Riefenstahl style, his stage outfit during the CL phase, interviews with the press etc.)

That Roxy Music were booed off the stage when they opened for Tull at MSG in NYC.

Viva! was originally supposed to be a double LP.

(A critic said this--Lester Bangs maybe). Street Life wouldn't exist had it not been for the Stones' tune Citadel.

Luther Vandross was a member of Roxy Music for about 20 minutes.

Mr Jobson is not on the greatest of terms with the other members of RM.

More later.
