Couldn’t sleep a wink last night...

Pyjamarama is the Roxy Music track that my ears have heard least . By far.

The reasons for this are obvious. I didn’t like it when it came out. It was the vocal that disturbed my young teenage ears. It’s not on a studio album. It hasn’t had as much airplay as Virginia Plain has had over the years and I’m sure there is no iconic TV archive of it performed.

But, it’s a great song and it now thrills me when I hear those opening chords. It’s on Viva! Roxy Music and it was a real treat when Roxy played it at Koko Club in 2005.

So, here’s to Pyjamarama and hot August nights.

It was the first Roxy record I ever bought and it will therefore always hold a special place in my ageing heart.

Either Boots or WH Smith (or both) used to sell 45rpm singles at half price as they exited the charts and so it was with this gem. About 22.5 pence (or four shillings and sixpence, as we were still learning not to say) of my pocket money was shelled out and a lasting love affair began... ;)

It's probably my favourite single (Street Life occasionally nudges at the top spot), and it's my ringtone.

I loved the intro interplay of Phil and Paul, then the mood changes with Bryan's soft warbling and Eno's (I presume) morse code effects, ending with a nice swirling fade down an electric plughole.

Andy's electric oboe break is so manic, it still gives me goosebumps!

The lads looked great at the time too, fab outfits.

Thank you for the call-out RoxySiren - much appreciated.

Pyjamarama grows in stature over the years - and the "bill and coo" line always gets a smile from us here at roxymusicsongs.com

Hope you're having a great summer!
Kevin
