RSD Release 18th April 2020

Roxy Music - Roxy Music (The Steven Wilson Stereo Mix)
This remastered version of Roxy Music's dizzying and compelling debut album was completed in 2012, but has languished in the vaults ever since. It's getting a belated reissue on clear vinyl just ahead of its 50th anniversary, with the "full blessing of the band".

Worth it , or not? I wonder.
Resistance is futile .

Another trick to finance the retirement of our beloved heroes Ferry, Mackay, Manzanera + Co. The stereo mix should have been included in the special deluxe package! It was expensive enough, wasn't it? Now I should decide to buy the clear vinyl (I never liked vinyl !!!) because I am afraid that there won't be a cd version. Or wait if there's a cd going to be released some day - or not ... Anyway, I don't like this business policy because I am a true fan since 1973  .

Ha!

Churning the Catalog Continues!

I followed the "Record Store Day" link and couldn't uncover what this latest version of the First Album is to cost... Just wondering...

And how many of these will be sold? A couple of thousand would seem like a lot...

Oh well, if it helps keep some old-school Record Stores afloat then what's the harm. But who really needs this latest product of The Never Ending Churn?

Rough Trade quotes £21.99 for a limited edition of 1,250 copies (it also says it's a double album, but I think that must be an error, unless the discs are 45rpm, rather than 33rpm...). :)

It's not a crazy price - and hopefully some Record Stores will get a boost from the album sales...

I don’t regret spending £30 on last years remix album for RSD , but it clearly undersold as you can still get a copy in various stores.
I really don’t mind the different layers that Somerset , Idjut Boys and others bring to the work - still Roxy/Ferry but with a twist . I admit that purists will differ , and I may also just be charged as an “I will love everything that they throw at me for my cash’ type of person.

So back to Steve Wilson, is it going to be any good , as music rather than a collector’s piece ? Those of you who got the earlier , and now rare, RSD Ladytron 10” will know , as I understand that was mixed when this album was done back in 2012.

Now 20 June, although I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back further (assuming any retailers are still solvent to participate!).

Although RSD was postponed from 18/4 until 20/6, I'm still not sure it's going to happen; even if the shops re-open next week, I'm not sure that the usual RSD queues would sit happily with social distancing...

The latest I've heard is that RSD releases will be staggered over three dates in late August, September & October, with the Roxy LP rescheduled for 29/8.

That's my understanding too, Smudge.
