I have just heard the sad news that Yanick Etienne "The voice of Avalon" has passed away.

Yanick has a special place in Roxy Music history with her vocal at the end of Avalon.

I met Yanick a few times and interviewed her at one time and she was always a pleasure to chat to.

Condolences to Yanick's family.

I'm sure I'll be far from alone in letting out an audible and deeply sorrowful "oh no" upon reading this. You're quite right John, Yanick had a hugely affectionate place in fans' hearts - even, I'm certain, those who are more ardent fans of early Roxy. Her voice was like a combination of birdsong and the crystal clear chime of the brightest bell.

'Avalon' will never sound quite the same again but, at the same time, what an utterly timeless legacy.

Thanks for the memories Yanick. RIP and condolences to all those close to you. X

Her vocals on "Avalon" for the 2001 Roxy Music Live reunion album are as ethereal as the studio recording. What a talent.

Very sad news indeed. Probably the best backing vocalist Roxy and Bryan ever used. Far too young to be taken

RIP, Yannick. I'd wondered if you would join the upcoming tour. You'll be sorely missed...
