Our heroes long love affair with Virginia’s favourite crop has doubtless taken its toll. W2 remembers Bowie urging Lulu to switch to Marlboro to get some husk into her voice - the madness of it all ! Anyway, happily for us our hero did give it up before it gave him up and the fact that he was always as much a composer, arranger, and stylist as he was a singer has seen him go on to give us such marvellous stuff. And yes, it was this particular n’er-do-well who suggested, over on the other channel, that ‘Mamouna’ is the best album our hero has done thus far. The reason being because it is ! Chers amis! Comment allez-vous? Encore une fois... The discussion between W2 and sentimental fool is yet another proof of BF´s genius. Of course no one can decide which era is the best. Still, it´s interesting that we are so divided. Most of all it shows that BF,s ouevre has an enduring quality that goes on from the beginning until this day. I am on le grand W2;s side, Mamouna is something of a roundabout that connects the pathways of BF;s journey. That´s the perspective from my perception. We are different and why not celebrate that fact instead of fight? Can´t wait for the deluxe edition of Mamouna/Horoscope! Salutations à tous, Oberon |
