I love 'Over You' and I'll always remember the day my mum shouted me through to the kitchen because there was a new Roxy Music song on the radio .... BUT ... maybe once every couple of months I find myself wondering ...What if 'Same Old Scene' had been the lead single from Flesh and Blood?

'Over You' and 'Oh Yeah' are two outstanding pieces of pop music, so I imagine they would have been equally successful had they not been the first and second release respectively. Certainly, had Same Old Scene been the lead release, it unquestionably would have fared better than the #12 it eventually achieved, as this was Roxy at the height of their commercial success.

Interestingly, of the three singles, SOS seems to have endured better in terms of radio play. Certainly as far as the radio I listen to goes, the first two singles aren't played a great deal but SOS crops up quite a lot. It's not just a radio favourite from 'Flesh + Blood' but of the band more widely. Anecdotally, I'd say the most played singles, in a rough order, are 'More Than This', 'Angel Eyes', 'Dance Away', 'Same Old Scene', and 'Love Is The Drug'. Just an opinion. Maybe stats exist somewhere of records played, by artist, if only to determine PRS royalties?

I know this is not a radio play list, but nevertheless shows popularity.

I always think if it had been released first it would've caused more of a sensation.. for itself and the album - It's like the perfect mix early and late Roxy - might've been their first Number 1 .

I think 'Avalon' is probably one of the more played singles - this century anyway. It was certified silver, (200,000) in the UK in 2021. Data gathered from 2004 onwards. Sales, or equivalent include streams in the modern world of course.

Spotify IIRC typically show a list of 'some' of an artists most streamed songs, so not necessarily totally accurate. i.e. the list may not be Roxy's top 5 streamed tracks, but 5 of their most streamed tracks. I think only the artists get detailed breakdown?

Interesting topic though.
