I read a thing a while back about Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody. Freddie Mecury wrote BR and the B side was written by Roger Taylor. BR went on to be a huge hit but apparantly Roger Taylor got half the money because of the way song writing royalties are drawn up ! Is that the reason why a load of Roxy B sides between 1972 and 1975 were non Bryan compositions to give the rest of the band a chance to earn some more money ? While on the same subject I would imagine that Bryan picked up half the money when Jealous Guy was released coz he wrote the B side. Does anyone know any more about how songwriting arrangements work ?

There'd a many templates. But at the end if the day, it's all about what the lawyers get for their clients. You can categorize a song into many consituent parts if you want, splitting shares of shares etc. Or make it simple. So, it varies a lot. Buti think most pros the days split ebwteen writing, composing, arranging, producing, performing and brand co-ownership.
But I'm making a half educated guess he: does anyone really know out there?
I did here from a good source that from very early on in the roxy days, the principals all turned up to meetings about money with lawyers. Very serious and solemn.

I think the 50/50 split was the norm to, as has been mentioned, share things around a bit.
I recall that in order to ensure he got 100% royalties, when the talentless cretin Jonathan King did his revolting (but big hit)version of "Una Paloma Blance," the b-side was blank plastic, he couldn't even be arsed to do a b-side. Apparently people complained about being short-changed and only getting one track.
Let's face it, if you bought the bloody thing you deserved to be fleeced for having such appalling taste!
