Hi. I'm looking for albums (by other musicians/bands) that have similar guitar work and general mood to Avalon and Boys&Girls. I hope you understand what I mean:). (Sorry for my bad English)

not many rock artists would release something similar to those 2 albums..you might try some of Scott Walker's more recent works...he is much darker tho...Tipsy is pretty wild too but they just do instrumentals

What about the Grace Jones albums from the early 80s? I think they create a similar polished mood.

God no! For heavens sake don't compare Avalon with The Drift!!
Scott Walker's last two albums - Tilt from 1995 and The Drift from 2006 as about as far from the smooth lush sound of Avalon as it is possible to be.

Personally I think that Scott's work is damn near genius, but much of The Drift absolutely terrifies me every time I listen to it. It is gut wrenchingly scary in places - one track features percussion created by a man punching a dead pig, and another features odd backing vocals from what seems to be the Devil himself, although using the voice of a demented Daffy Duck... It is a massively immersive experience and demands to be listened to in one heart stopping sitting. It is extreme.

Tilt is perhaps a little more palatable. The opening track "Farmer In The City" contains arguably the most beautiful music I've ever heard, but track 2, "The Cockfighter" opens with truly horrid scratching and moaning sounds before slamming the listener over the head with massive slabs of percussive noise and cracked octave leaping vocals. It is absolutely astonishing stuff but NOTHING like Bryan Ferry's smoothest, most laid back albums.

Cheers,
Richard

Talking og interweaving of instruments and carefully crafted "rock", with a bit of mellowness and edginess, I would recommend the 3 albums from the beginning of the 70s from Paul Kantner & Grace Slick + friends, namely:

1) Blows Against the Empire (1970)
2) Sunfighter (1971) (beware of disgusting lyrics on "Silver Spoon")
3) Baron von Toolbooth and the Chrome Nun (1973)

For a starter, try "Crown of Creation" (1968) by much of the same people, namely The Jefferson Airplane.

You could try Black by Black. A beautiful album with fine songs and lovely musicianship.

I don't think there's anything really similar to Roxy or BF and that's part of the appeal. I think it'd be better checking out the artists that BF has covered over the years.

If I had to pick something, then Sade, Diamond Life would be my choice.

I always thought Icehouse had a Roxy feel about them although I don't know too much about them.

Yes 'Icehouse' is a good shout.....try their album 'Primitive Man', lovely album and a very similar Ferry sounding singer... It was also released in 1982 as was Avalon.

Or albums by Japan or David Sylvian?
