Any news on hi-rez discs?

Are they planned or have they been scrapped?

Can I ask a favour of those of you that had bought the box? Could you give those of us that are contemplating purchasing it a pointer or two: the sound quality, what's in the revamped gatefold sleeves, whether or not the extra tracks hold any surprises, etc?
Kind Regards, Mark Stagg.

never heard of him, scanned video, alot of comparing as though
the new box set isn't as good audio & colour wise as well

that little link there that he wants you to click is an affiliate link that re-directs you to Amazon, so if you buy from that link, he gets a commission!

It's called affiliate marketing.

Won't help sales as some people have stated there.

this guy says it looks like it's made in China and cheap!

wockawocka, where did you find this whiner?

3 1/2 tuxedos out of 5? what the ***k? p*ss off!

John! Everyone!

The youtube review is waaaay too long and repetitive (and he takes a cheap shot at Pyjamarama). But he knows something about Roxy history and he makes some reasonable points regarding the graphic quality of the new album covers. In my view, he makes a convincing case that the 1999 remasters represent a higher quality product then the new box set (in particular the graphic quality of the F&B and Avalon covers really look weak).

But the reviewer recognizes that the box set doesn't cost an arm and a leg and that if you didn't have any Roxy in your cd collection it's not a bad deal. But it will probably be an even better deal in a month or two when the price drops down even further...

To me, the box set looks like it was the idea of the record company to repackage the catalog yet ONE MORE TIME and squeeze out some more sales before the deluxe releases of individual albums start coming along at the end of the year. It's a bare-bones boxset that didn't cost much to produce and it looks that way...

DCJ,

ok ok ok, so it's a cheap product. Hear that Bryan?

It's a marketing ploy as I said.

I'm sure there's someone from Bryan's camp reading this.
If so, I'd blacklist you as well the poster & reviewer.

You made in China?

The box set is relatively cheap and not aimed for the hardcore Roxy fan. I'm hoping that the deluxe editions will be much better.
Though I am worried about the remastering; if it is the flat transfer which is said to be inferior to the Bob Ludwig remasters then it won't be worth buying. :?

Looks cheap and like it was made in China?! This nerd is talking out of the back of his head! :o

Don't be put off: if you were going to buy it, go ahead and treat yourself; if you weren't, then fair enough, but don't let the Youtube report put you off if you're still wavering.

I'm not worried about the quality of the 40th anniversary deluxe set; knowing BF's attention to detail, it'll be a work of art. :D

It would have been worth it if it had contained the hi-rez DVD audios as originally promised.

As it it, what does it contain that has not been previously released?

The 1999 cds are selling for about a fiver - or less - on Amazon....8 x 5 = 40....it's a no-brainer, isn't it?

It doesn't contain any previously unreleased material (I think), but is a very nice box set collection. The reason that a hardcore Roxy fan might buy it is the sound quality, which I find clean and authentic, i.e. retaining the original details and subtle touches. Most of the reviewers on Amazon also agree that this is superior to the 1999 remasters (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Roxy-Music-Comp ... 285&sr=1-1).
