I don't tend to listen to much recent music, and tend to go for new stuff by long-established artists. For example, I liked very much Blancmange's new album and live shows. As for new bands, I'd recommend the folk band Smoke Fairies, who I first heard as a support act on BF's Dylanesque tour.

Hipsters, The best thing I have heard in many a year is Anna Calvi's debut album. It is superb and well admired by rock aristocracy - Eno to name but one. I had the pleasure of seeing her in Brighton concert and she was electric - plays guitar like a female Hendrix. Brilliant, Art Rock is alive and well! Regards, Windswept.
