Was at Hammersmith Apollo last night to hear Ronnie Wood & Friends play a tribute to Chess Records (Chicago blues & early rock 'n roll, for those unfamiliar with those waters).
Among the "friends" on stage were the twin drums of AN & Simon Kirke (Free & Bad Company), ex- Stones Mick Taylor & Bill Wyman, plus several guest singers including Sharleen Spiteri (Texas), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band) & the truly awful James McCartney (son of Macca).
AN played subtle "second fiddle" to Kirke's more muscular approach; this subtlety extended to switching to washboard for two numbers! Don't know if he was a skiffle fan in his youth, but I'm quietly glad that it's a skill unused in his RM & BF work!
