While I was thinking about a new thread dealing with the music that members of this forum listen to - apart from RM/BF - I discovered this one which has been started 5 years ago.
Ok, Roxy MUSIC was my first love and it will be my last
.
But as owner of at least 2.000 cd records I am/was a fan of:
Peter Gabriel
Genesis (with PG but also with PC as lead singer)
Phil Collins
Marillion
Supertramp
Saga
Asia
Kate Bush
Robert Palmer
Paul Young (not the Mechanics singer)
Paul Carrack (the voice)
Paul Rodgers (the voice)
Rod Stewart (early phase from "Maggie May" to "You're In My Heart")
The Kinks (all phases)
The Police (not so much Sting as a soloist)
Dire Straits (not so much M. Knopfler as a soloist)
Toto (including Steve Lukather as a soloist)
Fleetwood Mac (not as a blues band)
Abba (sorry ...)
James Taylor (the folk rock singer, not the jazz musician)
Christopher Cross
Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young)
The Eagles
Doobie Bros.
Boz Scaggs
Suzanne Vega
Sheryl Crow
Bonnie Raitt
Diana Krall
Al Jarreau
The Manhattan Transfer
Prince
David Bowie
Human League
Pet Shop Boys
Prefab Sprout
Paolo Conté (Italian singer/songwriter)
J. S. Bach
L. v. Beethoven
F. Schubert
P. I. Tchaikovsky
S. Prokofiev ...
... and I like Status Quo while driving in my car
So far - to name the most important ...
When I was young I tried to search for sounds that reminded me of Roxy Music such as Cockney Rebel, The Sparks, early Ultravox, Split Enz (from NZ), Icehouse, Duran Duran, Talk Talk or even Sailor ("A Glass Of Champagne", sorry ...)
Younger artists: I like Milow (from Belgium), Passenger, Travis, Ron Sexsmith, Train, Joss Stone, Duffy, Aura Dione etc.
Since there are so many new members in the meantime I would be glad to read some other musical biographies
.
Yours sincerely, - pianoman -
