I like Aerosmith for the older band and Coldplay for the newer band. I find their songs very interesting to listen to because every now and then they make songs that you can really say comes from the heart. I do hope that they really come up with new albums because i have bee a big fan ever since. They do good music and they are really very passionate at what they do. |

Have been listening to loads of southern rock, both vintage (e.g. Allman Brothers; Lynyrd Skynyrd) and more recent descendents (e.g. Warren Haynes & Gov't Mule; Kevn Kinney & Drivin' n' Cryin'). Also loving the old power trios of Hendrix & Cream (wasn't quite old enough to appreciate them in their heyday...) and those who kept that flame burning (e.g. Robin Trower, Gary Moore) up to the present day (e.g. Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepherd). Have to find time for Free, the Faces & (preferably plugged in) Neil Young too... Keep going back to the blues guitars of the Kings (Albert, Freddie & B.B. in order of preference), Luther Allison & Otis Rush, but so many others worthy of similar mention. Not bad for someone who's viewed by his friends as a jazz fan! Had a £3 punt on Cee Lo Green's "The Lady Killer" from my local Fopp store, based on the hit single, a great voice & BF's comments (in the Spanish interview some months ago) about being interested in working with him. Selah Sue, another BF favourite, guests on one track. And to think Mrs Smudge wonders why I prefer early retirement to full-time work... |

While I was thinking about a new thread dealing with the music that members of this forum listen to - apart from RM/BF - I discovered this one which has been started 5 years ago. Ok, Roxy MUSIC was my first love and it will be my last . But as owner of at least 2.000 cd records I am/was a fan of: Peter Gabriel Genesis (with PG but also with PC as lead singer) Phil Collins Marillion Supertramp Saga Asia Kate Bush Robert Palmer Paul Young (not the Mechanics singer) Paul Carrack (the voice) Paul Rodgers (the voice) Rod Stewart (early phase from "Maggie May" to "You're In My Heart") The Kinks (all phases) The Police (not so much Sting as a soloist) Dire Straits (not so much M. Knopfler as a soloist) Toto (including Steve Lukather as a soloist) Fleetwood Mac (not as a blues band) Abba (sorry ...) James Taylor (the folk rock singer, not the jazz musician) Christopher Cross Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) The Eagles Doobie Bros. Boz Scaggs Suzanne Vega Sheryl Crow Bonnie Raitt Diana Krall Al Jarreau The Manhattan Transfer Prince David Bowie Human League Pet Shop Boys Prefab Sprout Paolo Conté (Italian singer/songwriter) J. S. Bach L. v. Beethoven F. Schubert P. I. Tchaikovsky S. Prokofiev ... ... and I like Status Quo while driving in my car So far - to name the most important ... When I was young I tried to search for sounds that reminded me of Roxy Music such as Cockney Rebel, The Sparks, early Ultravox, Split Enz (from NZ), Icehouse, Duran Duran, Talk Talk or even Sailor ("A Glass Of Champagne", sorry ...) Younger artists: I like Milow (from Belgium), Passenger, Travis, Ron Sexsmith, Train, Joss Stone, Duffy, Aura Dione etc. Since there are so many new members in the meantime I would be glad to read some other musical biographies . Yours sincerely, - pianoman - |

Nice idea to give this old thread a bump. I love so many different kinds of music but my greatest love - after everything RM and BF, of course - is Soul: Al Green Aretha Franklin Ann Peebles Aloe Blacc Amy Winehouse Bobby Womack Curtis Mayfield Donny Hathaway Isaac Hayes James Brown Janet Jackson Marvin Gaye Otis Redding Prince Sam & Dave Simply Red Sly & The Family Stone The Temptations And many, many more. That said, wouldn't it be nice to have a thread where we post links to some of our favourite music on youtube and other online streaming services? Reading all these long lists of your favourite music here is quite nice, but when I don't know a band somebody lists here, just reading the name doesn't give me an idea of what it's about.... I think I'll just start one |

I'm very glad that the reanimation of this thread has found followers. @LD: Why not start thread no. 1.500 ? With links to other musical heroes beside Roxy-Ferry. What a good idea, "Hamburger Deern"! If you like to, why not tell us about your Roxy/Ferry collection in my "Collector's Choice" thread . Your list of soul music heroes is very impressive. Even if it's a very broad church ... from "I Feel Good" (James Brown) to "Money's Too Tight To Mention" (Mick Hucknall/Simply Red) or so. Music IS Soul and vice versa! - pianoman - P.S.: Hamburg and soul music reminds me of Stefan Gwildis and Michy Reinke ... German, but not bad . |

Zappa writes: Faust That's industrial rock. One of Faust band members (from Hamburg) lives (lived?) in Kempten/Bavaria. Had interesting conversations with him - pianoman - |
