I may be incorrect, but I think some time ago this band were mentioned on this site for having a Roxy sound and influence. I did nothing about it at the time, but recently one of my old mates contacted me out of the blue (I haven't seen him for a couple of years) and said "When I heard this track I thought Roxy had re-formed and I thought of you!" Which was very nice of him.

The track was "(I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing."

I don't have a personal laptop so don't do dowloads etc. so I just had to go out and buy some good old fashioned cds by these guys. I can see exactly where my mate was coming from. The track above is from their latest album "Plumb" and is very funky a la Nile Rodgers & Roxy 79-82. Also, the intro of the opening track of their "Tones of Town" album is a lovely homage to Remake/Remodel.

However, I'd be doing a disservice to hint the band are simply Roxy copyists, they're not. It's yonks since I got into a "new" band and I love these guys, they blend so many different styles, they're fresh and inventive but also remind me of bits of Roxy, XTC, The Blue Nile, The Beatles, The Beach Boys.

All sung in a Sunderland accent (my hometown, which I miss so much!!) !! Sounds weird I know, but check them out boys and girls. :D

Fellow Dilettante,
Thanks for posting this - I've had a listen and they are very interesting and more than a little eclectic.
Regards,
Windswepy

Thanks Windswept2, eclectic is a choice description, and here's a strange coincidence, I'm popping back home for a few days this week to visit family as it's my eldest boy's birthday soon. I was chatting to him the other day about discovering this band, and years ago when he used to work for Bunker studios in Sunderland he got to know them and is mates with the Brewis boys. Cosmic!
