Elegantly Ageing, Decadent & Most Artistic Hipsters,
The first lady of Art Rock, the delectable and extremely talented Anna Calvi has had her second album "One Breath" out for a while but I've only just got round to listen to it.
I can't recommend it highly enough. Every song is hugely rewarding, from the beautiful opener 'Suddenly', to the ethereal choral 'The Bridge'. Her singing is extraordinary and she must be the best Axe Woman around?
If you can image Roxy Music blended with Ennio Morriconne, you've got it.
Definitely Windswept's tip of the year to date!
a bien tôt,
Windswept

Thank you, Windswept, I had never heard of her before. I'm just listening to her album on her youtube profile:

some of her singing reminds me positively of Siouxsie and the Banshees though Anna Calvi doesn't have that dark and mysterious aura about her.

Cher Lonely Dreamer,
I'm pleased you gave her a whirl!
I saw her in concert at London's Somerset House and Brighton's Komedia and on both occasions she had a lot of charisma and more than a touch of noir.
Her debut album is also well worth getting into and she also has an EP of covers coming up that looks very interesting.
She's probably too big now (she's well liked in France & Spain in particular) but I've often thought that it would be a huge win if she opened for Roxy or Ferry. She would be a shoe in for their crowd and it would be a great way for our hero to get a younger audience to his shows.
Regards,
Windswept
