Having heard this number 1 album produced by Phil quite some times now, I can only state that David Gilmour seems to willingly put his former band to rest also as to how he plays. There are moments of the old grandeur, but the guitar solos are underdeveloped. The production and arrangements are great. There are plenty of sounds, but always restrained, understated. They never get in the way of each other.

The songs are quite diverse, but there are two clear "Pink Floyd" moments. That is "Faces of Stone" at side one of the LP, and "In Any Tongue" at side two. The former almost sounds as if it could have been lifted from "The Wall", and the latter COULD have been a stadium staple from the era without Waters. Oh, how I wished he could have tied and bent the guitar outro of that song endlessly.

Elsewhere there is too much noodling, too much comforting soft guitars to my taste. The album even ends with the sound of crackling from a fire, intentionally so.
