I found this article about him that was published by The New Yorker a couple of weeks ago:

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/10/17/leonard-cohen-makes-it-darker

They quote a letter Cohen wrote to Marianne as she lay dying in July this year:

Quote:
Well Marianne, it’s come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine. And you know that I’ve always loved you for your beauty and your wisdom, but I don’t need to say anything more about that because you know all about that. But now, I just want to wish you a very good journey. Goodbye old friend. Endless love, see you down the road.

They also quote him saying

Quote:
I am ready to die. I hope it’s not too uncomfortable. That’s about it for me.

I sympathise lonely dreamer, I've spent the last few months catching up on the guy, I meant to do this years ago.....

I think a lot of us are suffering some sort of fatigue losing so many heroes this year, that may explain the lack of response.

That message you posted from him to Marianne is really beautiful and sums up the humanity of the guy.

Lots of love.

Hi rendezvous,

yes, I thought Lenny would have more fans here. Good to read you like his music too. I'm not too big a fan of his recent works, he lost me somewhen at the end of the nineties, when his voice got too deep for my taste, but his earlier works still mean a lot to me. And he's a fascinating character.
