For anyone here who might be interested, Jim Marshall has resumed jockeying after years away. Marshall is a music writer and former FM disc jockey, gin joint operator, and hobnobber with many, many great characters of the music world back in the day. (He knows Brian Eno, is a Roxy devotee; I don't know whether he has met any of the others.)

Marshall's all about the music, not about himself, so he opens his show without speaking, going straight into a (usually) 8-song set. He identifies every song/artist afterward, has forgotten more than most will ever know about obscure blues/RandR, and will often have a story to tell about a song or artist.

He'll talk a little bit between sets but not much, and quietly - he's no Wolfman Jack. (He's unhappy with current state of world so there are lots of quiet f-bombs; if one minds that, or is an enthusiast of current US administration, forewarned.) In the main he talks music/artists and the talk is brief. He wants the songs to get out there.

This isn't your grandmother's Top 40 playlist rehash, this is stuff rarely heard, from Marshall's own vast record collection, played on actual turntables. Record conditions are generally mint but some have a bit of the warp or scratch so you sometimes get the total turntable sound warts and all, which I enjoy but some may not.

He plays stuff like Johnny Jenkins, for whom (most here probably know) Otis Redding was chauffeur till Jenkins left Redding some unused Stax studio minutes and the rest is history. Marshall will also play a little really stupid/goofy/silly old stuff if his mood is extra-black. For aficionados of lesser-known or fading-into-time blues/R&R, it's all good. If streaming live you can watch the radio storefront's streetcam too, which is sometimes pretty entertaining. (And sometimes not. NYC, but, tame touristy South St. area.)

Marshall can be heard live online on Thursdays, 6-8 pm US EST. The archived shows are normally available 2-3 days after live from the website. Link here:
