The topic title has nothing to do with tv, I hope other viva residents have already heard of this wonderful band......I had heard a whisper but didn't follow it up until recently. A couple of weeks ago I was driving from Lincoln to Staffordshire and tuned to BBC Radio 5 Live. The radio reception was a bit dodgy as I was driving through the Peak District, but I was hypnotized by this Welsh voice talking about ironing shirts and there was a wonderful driving beat of guitar and drums mixed in, I thought the radio was playing up....but stayed with it cos it sounded so great. The song finished, and the dj (interviewer really) talked to the band. In short, I had heard a track from their new album Every Valley, which came out last Friday. It is magnificent. Mixes dialogue from tv, radio, film, with electronics and guitar and drums and brass - hauntingly, think Penny Lane meets A Day in the Life and Chance Meeting and Another Green World.....Eno must admire these guys. The title track has a 30 second segment of Richard Burton talking about the miners being kings of the underworld....it will make your hairs stand on end. Yes it obviously has a political viewpoint, but that is the result of big Politics, the humanity and romance of this album is so stunning. I have spent the last couple of weeks catching up on the work of these guys, it's incredible how creative they are, they bring pictures to your mind exactly like early Roxy. |

Very interesting, rendezvous, thank you! I watched some clips on YouTube and listened to some snippets on iTunes. Talented musicians, electronic music mixed with acoustic instruments. I like it even if I don't understand every word of the historic film tracks. I think I will download a PSB album from iTunes. |

Thanks for sharing Rendezvous. I've listened to a few tracks and am intrigued - will definitely seek out more. The promotion work that caught your ear on the radio seems to have paid off - their new album 'Every Valley' has debuted at 4 on the album chart - their first top 10. Looks like this is finally their time. |

Yup, thanks from me, too, Rendezvous. Started to watch some of their videos on youtube a couple of minutes ago, and I'm already intrigued by this one here: Gagarin |

Many thanks guys. I was back home in Sunderland at the weekend visiting my mam and played her some tracks from this album while driving her to God knows how many gardening stores, and she loved it.....she's 82.....the final track with the Welsh choir had her in tears, and I ended up having to leave her my copy of the CD!!! I will purchase another copy tomorrow, along with their other albums. I think Go! and Spitfire are my favourite you tube videos from their earlier work. All the best to you all. |

Really enjoying listening to more - mainly random selections but that's no bad thing given their eclectic work, although I am attracted to the themes of their albums too. Thanks again for the recommendation - I can get quite lazy when it comes to new music. This is definitely one of those occasions when I'm happy to be prodded in a particular direction. |
