Unfortunately this may not get much play because it’s buried in ‘general’ which is sad because I listened to this last night and loved it.
The album was, for me, quite a surprise. I expected lots of sax and instead, the whole thing has a really melancholic and sonic feel to it.
The lady is clearly a real talent. We already knew she was as a live musician but here she shows real broad creativity as a composer.
Fabulous stuff and very cinematic. She’d be great doing movie scores.
Listen, enjoy and bravo Jorja.
Windswept.

Jorja played her first solo gig on Tuesday night at The Lexington, a small (possibly 200 capacity) club in Kings Cross; she was supporting the Finnish electronica of Jaakko Eino Kalevi.

I assume the headliner's name was primarily responsible for the event selling out, as I only saw one person there who I knew to be a Roxy/BF diehard. Jorja's set was nevertheless well received and she seemed very happy at how it went. She also contributed sax solos at various points during the headline set.

Her music leans (at least to these ears) towards ambient and electronica and could probably serve as a film soundtrack. Jorja sang, played alto & tenor saxes and keyboards, while her partner was surrounded by what appeared to be computers and pre-programmed keyboards.

Studio One was represented and Jorja's past and present bandmates there were Paul Beard (who told me that he's currently working with Art Garfunkel), Linus Taylor & (I think) Richard Cardwell.
