Cher LP,
Bien venue au club mais il faut faire attention, some learned Roxologists haunting this hallowed cyber hall do deal in "kool aid".
Don't be tempted and remember, all Ferry is good Ferry (except "Is My Love Strong Enough").
a bien tôt,
Windswept

Cher Windswept.

I shall take good care and stick to the real ale in town!
Actually I was having a pint in the Argyll Arms in Oxford Circus the other week which is opposite the old Air Studios in Oxford Street, where as we know many of the early recordings came from.

Wait a minute... WS2's warning about Kool-Aid is tricky move, because he is thought by many (i.e. me) to be among the deepest quaffers of the devious brew...

But his willingness to speak out forcefully against "Love Strong Enough" is a sign that he is not totally under the spell of The Great Man.

Of course, WS2 is one of the few who saw The Gas Board perform so he is due respect and deference. That is like seeing the Beatles at The Cavern!

My dear friend WS2 should have a preservation order slapped on him :)

I, too, was stunned when I read that first time around. Especially given that I think that track is merely 'a bit limp' (despite some nice playing). I never felt it to be a shocker though. But for WS2 to spurn it with such vitriol....blimey!

I sometimes suspect it might be a deceptive maneuver to make us believe exactly that ;)

Good Evening to all Fellow Roxyologists and Ferryistas! It is Lori. First of all please allow Me to welcome to this very unique and special Family Here to London Pubs! This very scared and hallowed Cyber Hall Of Justice I am sure will be very happy to have You! ( Although I have to appollogise for being so late to the Welcome wagon party. )
I have been rather tired lately.
Second of all, I have been doing some very deep thinking about The Song " Is Your Love Strong Enough? " for quite some time. In fact I wanted to start A New Discussion Thread Here In Bryan Ferry's Forum about all 3 of His Movie Sound-Track Songs. However since Wind Swept 2 and a few others Here always seem to beat Me to the punch so to speak, I thought I would share My thoughts and feelings about " Is Your Love Strong Enough ? " Right Here.
I don't get the Out-Right hatred and desposision of this Song.
It is for Me One of the most Mentally and Emotionally powerful Movie Sound-Track Love Theme Songs I have ever heard.
It resonate and riveting. Especially the extended Long Version Mix.that is almost 8-10 Minutes long. This is how to truly appreciate and respect the true essence of the Song.
the First Time i heard this song I was so moved by it.
Bryan's Voice on it has so much passion, so much emotion. Sung with intensity and with fierce desperation and longing. Powerful Vocals.
He SHOULD have performed this Song LIVE during The Bete Nior Tour. Ditto for " Help Me. " The Second of His 3 Movie Sound-Track Theme Songs.
" Dance With Life ( The Brilliant Light ) SHOULD have been performed LIVE during The As Time Goes By Tour. All 3 of these Songs are Masterpieces deserving to be SEEN as well as HEARD. Hung on A Music Museum's Wall behind Velvet Ropes with Golden Fixtures.
I look forward to SEEING/READING any and all posts from London Pubs! I really hope He/She enjoys Their Time Here! " Is Your Love Strong Enough? " is clearly One of My favorite Deep Tracks/Songs from Bryan Ferry. The Song was clearly A perfect fit for the 1985-86 Movie Legend. The Instruments clearly transported The Audience to the time depicted.
I appollogise for My indescresion and for committing A High Crime Here for loving it. A real Gem of Diamond in the Rough.
Love to all, Lori.

Hello Lori and thank you for the welcome.

I do agree I think 'Is Your Love Strong Enough?' is indeed a fine tune. Not a favourite but still good, and one that does come across better in the long version. It's great to hear Gilmour come to the fore in the nice long instrumental passage, in the same way as Ollie Thompson does to the masterpiece that is 'Reason Or Rhyme'. I do believe it started life during the 'Avalon' sessions, and although I can hear Gilmour and Newmark on there, there is guitar phrase at one point that sounds like Manzanera. Could it be that this track is almost, but almost one of the last public recordings with former Roxy alumni?

Regards,

LondonPubs.

Possibly. One of his best songs, and as good as the songs on the Avalon album.
