Given the turmoil we've gone through here in The States over the past several years, I won't criticize the Brexit decision.

But the idea that it would be a simple task to easily separate Britain from the EU always struck me as unrealistic. For an artist like BF who cultivated a significant fan base in continental Europe, Brexit has required him to rethink/restructure how he might reach such a fan base with a new, post-Covid tour.

BF also used to play private parties in Russia, but that has certainly changed...

Mes Amis,
As W2 prays like a Banchee to ‘The Gods Of Penshaw’, mauvais news is broadcast by J O’B on the ‘Roxy’ side of this hallowed cyber hall. Evidently there are to be no more fandangos of any description this year!
This provokes much discussion amongst the cognoscenti.
There are concerns expressed about the financial viability of tours, the frailty of vocal cords, the impact of Brexit (W2 loved the sawing of the branch analogy), the ageing process et all !
Windswept urges all to keep faith. The explanation could be more simple. Perhaps our hero is hard at work refining his ‘Love Letters’ set or maybe he is just taking some time out to finish that much anticipated biography ?
Of one thing W2 is sure, there will be a next act. There simply has to be. Bryan would never want his last fandango to be at the soulless abomination that is the O2. (Windswept is still trying to erase the discomfort of it all from his memory.)
We have to remain positive. Oberon should plant that tree. W2 has ordered a new corduroy suit in anticipation and in answer to Roger - does W2 know anybody nearing eighty that is still active. Yes W2 does. It’s that handsome bastard that stares back at him every morning from that shaving mirror !
To hell with the costs DCJ - we must fandango on. Windswept is sure ‘The Taste Tarantula’ will be treading the boards again next year.
Salutations a tous,
W2

Bonsoir!

Merci à le grand W2. Il est simplement génial!

And as our hero est un vrai artiste, he will continue to be creative as long as he can stand on his legs. But even though he use to say that he likes to travel, it would perhaps be a good idea to have a chain of shows only in London, à la Kate Bush at RAH some years ago. Anyway, let´s try to stay optimistic. Love letters will arrive!
Salutations à tous!

Mes Amis,
Oberon a reason. Our hero is absolutely “un vrai artiste” and as such, he has to perform. It’s what defines him.
Of course, ‘where or when’ he does it has to be continually refined.
Travel, post everything (9/11, Brexit, Covid et all) is clearly not what it was. The glamour has gone - even if you are at the front of the bus. And the thought of a world tour probably doesn’t hold the allure it once did.
This is why W2 thinks the answer lies in a residency. Either in each of the great cities (London, Paris, New York) or maybe just in London ?
It is something our hero did mention once in an interview and as a regular at NYC’s Carlysle Hotel he will doubtless have taken in the late, great Bobby Short’s set on more than one occasion and in many ways Short set the standard for that type of residency.
In Windswept’s not so humble opinion this type of platform would be perfect for a stripped down set featuring the type of chansons in the list.
Indeed W2 came across a fabulous rendition of ‘Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow’ with Jools Holland, Neil Hubbard and our hero performing as a trio (available on YouTube) which gives further inspiration to the idea.
In any event W2 will continue to pray to ‘The Penshaw Gods’ for an early ‘24 fandango !
Salutations a tous,
Windswept.

Nee chance of a residency at the Customs House South Shields then!?

Enjoyed your opening thread W2, and most of your options, but I despise Amazing Grace......too many Methodist meetings!!

Anything new from a possible completion of the album "Love Letters" - would be a nice acoustic present in the course of this year 8-) - beside the FYP Super Deluxe Box.

BTW: Today my favourite German radio station first played Virginia Plain and then Jealous Guy by Scottish musician Frankie Miller (recorded 1977) - never heard of that cover. On the album you can also find a version of "Love Letters" ;).
