i noted that this press release (it's not an interview really) refers to "a new way of doing things". this seems to refer to the business model/arrangements. maybe even to the trade off between co-financing and co-control. any ideas what this "new way" entails commercially?

...i'd imagine it means recording from start to finish new material & then licensing it to a traditional 'label'. this is basically what a lot of bands do these days as no label will give any 'advance' of any note to a band with unproven sales figures etc.
so - new band : finance their record & hope someone takes it on for distribution, promotion etc. BF - proven fanbase, sales etc - so easier to get someone on board to push whilst controlling every element of the product. 'the jazz age', anyone??

These days the most lucrative source of income for musicians and their management partners comes from touring/live performances. Cds and downloads just don't generate the income stream they used to. The money in so-called "360 Deals" is largely in selling high-priced tickets to concerts (this is why Madonna is on a seemingly endless tour...)
So where does that leave BF? Apparently his voice is too fragile to go out on the road for any big extended tour, so the BMG deal has got to be oriented towards a different way of monetizing his brand. BMG wants to find new ways to license his music and TJA seems to be a move in this direction. So how will BMG try to leverage TJA so that their interest in BF's catalogue will generate bigger returns? I don't know. That's the big question with TJA - will it offer a new platform to market BF's intellectual product in some new commercial environments? Hard to say. It will be interesting to see if TJA captures any broad public interest this holiday season. If it does, then the commercial possibilities will multiply. But if it only attracts hard core Ferry Fans, then marketing possibilities will shrink...
