Good grief! Look at this... it's one of the shortest reviews I've seen. Some of you could do a better job. I think I'll email The Guardian (of what?) and tell them to hire someone here. You know who you are.
It's a very good review, Erland. Short, succinct and with some good points. Reviews don't need to be long to be good, unless you're the kind of person who thinks Barbara Taylor Bradford's books are better than The Great Gatsby because they have more chapters.
Good point Jesmond and it is a positive reveiw. Some of the reviews which ramble on and on are often more about the author than the music being reviewed.
Articles in newspapers and magazines often cannot exceed a set number of words due to space constraints. As far as journalism goes, The Guardian is as fine of a news organization as it gets, and reviews like these are meant for consumption by a mass audience (many of whom may have little to no interest in Bryan Ferry - gasp!)
- Hmm, what a phrase; "bygone breeziness". That`s just what I`m going for these days, as I`m listening to the "Two For The Road" soundtrack from 1967 by the Mancini orchestra, and from a mint copy of vinyl. That writer, Guardian`s Kitty Empire, looks quite sure of herself. -Seems to know where it`s all at.
