Gee, ain't it funny how a question can snowball into a giant ball of yarn and the little kitties just go after it, tumbling over and over again like dice in the sheer joy of getting caught up in it like fish in a net, then struggle to get out. <tongue deep in cheek>

Who's that singer that says: "can't touch this"?

We all just express ideas and opinions. That's all. But, who gives a toss, really. We all have more important things to worry about than Bryan's new CD. He does what he wants and so do we.

Of course it is a Bryan Ferry album!
I don't think it will be a massive seller-it has been floating around Amazon's top 30 Jazz chart for 30 days now...but I don't think that is what BF intended.
It sounds wonderful and here he is again...expanding my musical tastes. :D

Dear Ageing Hipsters, Dilatantes, Ferryistas,Flappers and Undecideds,
I know that this is a democratic, open forum were all are entitled to their opinion but I have to say that I did raise my left eyebrow when Ian S commented that perhaps our 67 year young hero is not working hard enough!
Frankly, if those half his age were half as creative our musical catalogues would be enriched beyond belief.
Whilst motivated, I would also add that to suggest that an album entitled "The Jazz Age" by The Bryan Ferry Orchestra is not a Ferry album is bizarre in the extreme!
Regards,
Windswept

It's not so bizarre to think that TJA is a Bryan Ferry Orchestra allbum/cd and not a Bryan Ferry album/cd.

If BF and his record company BMG had wanted TJA to be considered a Bryan Ferry album they would be releasing it as such. But they are very consciously releasing it as a product of the Bryan Ferry Orchestra. And in my opinion they are doing this because they recognize that it is very different from every other album that has been released under BF's name since TFT back in 1973 (i.e. he doesn't sing on it and he also doesn't play any instruments on it).

Calling TJA a product of the Bryan Ferry Orchestra is simply "truth in advertising." But that's OK. Nothing wrong with that. What's the big deal?

I am looking forward to buying and enjoying TJA when it is released.

Bryan Ferry album (or not) there is obviously some confusion!

personally I'm going to buy this instead...

'Smooth Jazz Tribute to Bryan Ferry' available on Amazon and also on I-tunes under 'Smooth Jazz'.. 'Bryan Ferry Smooth Jazz Tribute'

Slave To Love, More Than This, Avalon etc.. even You Can Dance!

Check this out on I-tunes... much more my cup of tea than 20's Jazz.. Bryan doesn't play on it (as far as I know) but he did write all the songs!

I remember hearing a smooooth jazz version of Avalon on my car radio about ten years ago that was OK. Kinda like Kenny G does Roxy. But it wasn't so good that I tried to track down a copy to buy...

Windswept, when I say lazy. I mean that he's taking the easier option of recording old songs and perhaps not bothering to scratch his head and and write some new stuff. Anyone can record 10 old songs every year, but try writing 10 new songs per year. That's tougher. So,he's busy. But busy doing nothing ! As Andy Mackay once said !! In the last 25 years, the only new songs we got were on Mamouna, Frantic and Olympia. And Frantic and Olympia were padded out with a load of other people' s songs as well!
