I wondered how you might respond to the video. You're right. The best thing to do is try and forget about it as soon as possible. What a ridiculous waste of money...

At least it's an attempt at something new... unlike the embarrassing album cover ... All that's missing from the video , which is totally out of kilter with the song, is Tilda Swinton running around in a wig :-)

I liked it. Reminiscent of Nordic murder dramas. I suspect some of the footage is taken from such like?

RoxySiren you may have something there - out of kilter for BF certainly, but tapping in to a whole manner of current film and tv productions of nordic origin (or inspired by such), yes. Of course quite what any of that has to do with the music is debatable, other than consolidating BF's long fascination with motion pictures in some way.
Intriguing, for sure.

Keeping in mind Gen Y's fascination for the macabre, the closing shot with the villain and girls splayed provocatively on the bed would make an interesting album cover shot.

No surprise that this video is dividing opinion but I rather liked it. I think it provides an interesting visual interpretation of some of the lyrics ("No telling what's on your mind ... hatred, bitter..."). Intriguing is the word.

Upon reflection, I realize that I've never found any BF or Roxy videos to be particularly engaging. Despite all the hoopla about Roxy/BF music being "cinematic," I've rarely found their videos to hold much long term interest.

This latest one certainly has "high production values" (that being another way of say it cost a fair amount of money) but to what end? Of course, I have had it with Zombies and Vampires and the Walking Dead, thus it should be no surprise that the pleasure of being drawn into the murderous intrigues of morally bereft Gen Yers is lost on me.

Some interesting comments and opinions on this new video. It certainly is a departure from the usual performance based promotional videos. I have been trying to recall if this is a first for Bryan in that he does not appear at all. Perhaps it is a reach into the younger music video audience instead of relying more on radio play to boost sales.

It may appear controversial and not the usual style we have come to expect from The Maestro but if it has everyone talking about, good or bad then it's purpose has been served.

8-)

Not being a fan of the song - it makes it difficult to stay with the video all the way through. It's way better than the Benny Hill show special of You Can Dance but doesn't quite clinch it on the artsy angle . There seems to be a touch of 'Funny Games' in the overall vibe but the attempt to throw in some unnecessary glamour ( girls crawling like cats and brooding D and G aftershave boys ) undermines a decisive move into a different murderous direction - making it all a bit half way house for me . Paolo Nutini did this kind of thing much more successfully in his Iron Sky movio.

I didn't find it all that shocking and neither did I like it that much.
You see far more shocking things in French or Italian cinema. "The Night Porter" for instance!
