My personal thought is that as it is a Ferry/Stewart composition it might date from the 'Horroscope'/'Frantic' sessions and may even have been titled 'Frantic' at one point.

With the greatest of respect, I would hardly say Virgin Germany "saved his career". Ferry will always have an ace up his sleeve. I'm looking forward to the 2019 Harmonica Tour.

It's common knowledge that BF dashed off a covers set (Taxi then ATGB) roughly a couple of years after he couldn't get Horoscope and Alphaville released.

So it begs the question was there more to the surprise decision to record the Dylanesque album that was publicised?

Could Roxy have failed to attract a record deal perhaps? Or maybe some label people heard some of the material and were less than enthused? With Ferry's previous form it could certainly be possible.
