I had never even heard of Bill Fay until I clicked on the link, and I'm glad I did. I love that piano and the song is so cool. Where has he been hiding all my life?
Thanks for posting.

I had never known about this song hadn`t it been for a 4 CD box issued by the Mojo music mag in 2001 called "Acid Drops, Spacedust & Flying Saucers". It`s a collection of British psych nuggets from 1965 to 1969. It`s the last song on CD 2. It`s actually a B-side from a single called "Some Good Advice", released August 1967.

Yes indeed...it's a great track, similar in sound to bf faves del Shannon... Still sounds nowt like 'driving me wild' though, except for the fact it features drums, bass, keys etc etc...

Bryan has used that descending pattern on loads of songs:
If there Is Something in the instrumental section. Both Ends Burning in the chorus Heart Still Beating Verses The Only Face to name a few.
Slave To Love and Dance Away have a chord pattern used in a million songs.
Tara and Thrill Of It All have the same chord progression and when transposed are the same chords as My Only Love and Me Oh My.
A Really Good Time and To Turn You On verses use the same pattern too (descending as well)
Bryan has released around 150 self penned/co-wrote in his career. He, like anyone written that amount of music will re-visit patterns etc but it's what you do with them that counts....who would believe that Tara and Thrill Of It All have the same chords?

I've still got some nuggets and pebbles on vinyl from a psychedelic 60's night in the late 80's that I used to go to in town. I think I took a flying saucer home from there on many occasions haha

J.O'B. Very Well. We`re all searching for something that can explain this thing itching, when it occurs. My view is that from BF, we have the right to expect something special, dare I say abstract? We wish BF to push through the envelope instead of delivering standards. Maybe there are two standards, one for Roxy and one for his solo albums?

I think 'plagiarism' is a bit strong, especially for a fan forum, but certainly some songs are reminiscent of BF's earlier work which, as some have already pointed out, is almost inevitable. For me I'm completely struck by how much 'Driving Me Wild' reminds me of 'Cruel', but I love the song and BF's phrasing. One of many highlights.

It`s all about "truth". Even a fan forum should accept the truth. Of course there are many songs with decending pattern. A pattern is just a structure. When we don`t think Tara sounds familar to The Thrill Of It All despite having the same chords, it`s because of feeling and how it`s done. A feeling inside a head of a person can`t be denied. A little bit of this and a little bit of that is what makes something sound familiar. It`s composed. Led Zeppelin got accusation of plagiarism with Stairway To Heaven. I think it was the same level of familiarity as the above case.

Quote: It`s all about "truth" I'm not dismissing what you 'hear' le freak, but to my ears, any similarity between the two is vague to the point of being inconsequential. I do disagree with your contention about 'truth' though. This isn't "truth", it's opinion. We could establish it as truth if it were proved in a court of law. Finally my surprise at this being expressed in a fan forum could have been expressed better - what I meant was a fan forum that also forms part of the official site of the artist being accused of plagiarism. One assumes 'team BF' doesn't check in here very often.
