I hadn't even considered the BF canon. Shame on me.
This is tomorrow / in your mind: first class.
Hard rains/foolish things: marvellous
The in crowd / atap ....absolutely sublime

Another excellent thread here.

I felt I couldn't contribute to the best lyric thread as there were too many to choose from: so many lyrics that create emotions and memories of places, people, lovers (heartbreak usually), clothes (!).

I remember feeling proud when journalists started to say stuff like Bryan being the most important British songwriter of his generation. For me he's the best ever, but for music journos to say that was high praise - and I think the 2001 reunion brought his songwriting talent back into focus for the journos that missed him first time round.

Anyway, best BF opener for me is The "In" Crowd, and for best closer I'm going to cheat and say "Taxi" - I adore the desperate rainwashed anguish. I know it was actually the second-last track on the album but I don't class that reprise of I Put a Spell on You as being "proper." ;)

Best Roxy? Sorry, I can't decide, I've tried and tried but it's impossible, for the reasons mentioned in my first paragraph!

Cheers everyone.

In terms of Roxy, with the exception of F&B, i would say every album has great openers and closers.. Tell me one that hasn't.

Cher Richard,
Although I don't think 'In The Midnight Hour' is the best opener. I have to say that 'Running Wild' is a brilliant closer. N'est-ce-pas?

Cher rendezvous,
Great sentiments — eloquently put and doubtless shared by many who haunt this hallowed cyber hall.
As for Roxy, Windswept understands, " I tried but I could not find a way"
They are all so good!
Salutations,
W2

Dear W2 , running wild is so good...what a shame midnight hour so isn't. Richard's right; that opener let's down the Roxy show somewhat.

Oh, ye`r all so wrong. A girl working in a clothing store in the summer of 1980 got to know Roxy much because the opening track "In The Midnight Hour". Remember, Bryan`s voice peaked on this album, if not to say on this song. It was a cover song, but who cares? -One of the best Roxy songs ever. I would gladly greet a ninth Roxy album containing a couple of cover songs.

Taste Tarantulas,
IWNSHO, 'Same Old Scene' would have made a better opener.
There's nothing wrong with 'In The Midnight Hour' as a track - W2 likes it. It just doesn't set the scene well.
Maybe they were in hiatus at the time and their Midas touch temporarily deserted them when it came to selecting the running order?
Perhaps Bryan's tailor had upset him?
Doubtless all will be revealed in the biography!
Salutations,
W2

Still feeling empty and disillusioned from the hotch potch that was Ave u anymore ... I've dragged my self from my pit of indifference to defend "In the midnight hour' as an opening track ... The dreamy count in was clever and wonderful enough as an addition to this song ..but, as count in to the semi - perfect pop masterpiece of an album it is spectacular. Flesh and Blood is only ruined by 'Running wild' it's turgid MOR.
